It is another strong draft for them and Thelien is not getting any younger.

Aldon Smith would be an interesting add for a DE. Cowboys won't be bringing him back.

I would be all for a trade of a second day pick to get Sam Darnold.

Isn't Darnold a FA after this year or is it next? Why give up a pick for a rental backup?

Coming out of the draft I thought he was hyped, I thought he would bust or underperform. That said he has been better then a bust but not a whole lot. He could simply be stuck in a bad system with a bad team. He could be better then we think.

I would rather take the mid round pick and take Kyle Trask.

Not sure on the contract, but it is crazy to think Sam Darnold and Kyle Trask are the same age.

It will be interesting to see what the market is for him. I think it is all about who wants him and the market seems to be shirking as we get nearer to the draft.

Something to consider: If the Vikings traded for Darnold he would have over 4.5 million cap hit for a backup QB that might leave after this year or if he stayed he would likely cost some sort of decent amount. At this point 4.5 million this year or more might go a long way towards some decent players...hey don't we need a guard or 2? :)

I like the idea of bringing on Darnold but the way the Vikings have approached things (Cousins is their guy) it doesn't seem like the right investment with any kind of draft pick plus the cap hit he would cost.

If I was the Jets and the only offers I was getting was a late round pick and some cap space they may as well keep him for a year in case the guy they draft isn't ready yet...or some team has some injuries and decides they would rather have Darnold than what we they have as a backup or left out there on the FA market. The backup market looks like it's thinning a bit so that might benefit the Jets depending on how many teams have an open spot for a backup like the Vikings do. Of course for all we know the Vikings might actually think their Jake Browning Nate Stanley Duo actually have some promise for at least solid backups. As it's been suggested they may also draft another guy possibly with the same type of pick it would take to land Darnold but that guy would cost like the same amount over 4 years that Darnold would cost just this season.

I completely forgot Cousins has 2 more years on his contract. This becomes more concerning next offseason and I agree I would rather spend 4M on OL then backup QB for this season.

I bet they got him for the vet min and maybe nothing or next to nothing guaranteed.

Hale Hentges might be retiring. I wonder if he got a good offer after this internship. He has a masters in marketing.

I agree. Sadly I think these are nice depth additions, but not starters.

I had no idea who Hentges was. The data side of football is about where auto racing was 20 years ago. I should have taken that knowledge and tried to apply it to football. I did play with it with my stepkids when they did downhill skiing and it was interesting to look at different speeds, lines, and what was working vs not.

Technology probably makes some of these ideas more accessible/feasible than say 20 years ago.
