I would think if Long is healthy then yeah he starts.

If that's the case then the question becomes what happens at RT. How much benefit is there from moving a bunch of guys around at this point? Is Sirles a better guard or Tackle? Well the guy played tackle in college is a big long armed guy that was pretty effective at that position in college. Everything I've ever heard about Sirles is the guy is smart team oriented and simply a good dude. Listening to him on local radio you would think the guy was a 8 year NFL vet. I think because he isn't a highly regarded prospect or look like some freak athlete or whatever there is no talk of his "potential". He turned 25 in August. Clemmings turns 25 in November. I'm a Sirles homer but based on his performance in a couple games is it really so crazy to think he could be the next Joe Berger type that ends up just actually being a good player out of sorta nowhere? Of course Nebraska does have a pretty good tradition of olineman being worthwhile in the NFL and not all of them were high draft picks.

Edit: To follow up on Nebraska's offensive line prowess here is a crazy bit of info. Sirles is one of 4 offensive lineman that were college teammates at Nebraska that started NFL games last week.

Spencer Long, Washington 4th round 2014
Brent Qvale, Jets UFA 2014
Alex Lewis (was a backup when Sirles was a Senior), Ravens 4th round 2016
Jeremiah Sirles, Vikings UFA 2014

In addition another offensive line teammate of these guys Price Givens (UFA 2016) is on the Cardinals roster as a DT.

I like Sirles too. I would put him where he is most likely to be successful. I think Boone could easily jump to RT. He has played there in the past and just would like to see us have some good booked protection for Bradford. I think LT and RT are certainly the most important spots on the line.

From what I have read when Boone has played Tackle it's been at LT. He played a few years at RG so...sure they could probably put him over there at RT.

Why is it that you think Sirles is more likely to be successful at LG than RT?

Interesting looking back. He has not played LG long. I would put the best player at RT and then whoever else at LG. I would say Fusco, but he was horrible last year. Boone has been so so at LG and rated highly on passing and worse than average at run blocking.

Here is a little PFF

Rank OVR PASS Run
32 Alex Boone MIN 74.2 84.3 45.5
15 Jeremiah Sirles MIN 80.3 65.3 88.3

At the end of the day. I just hope we are open to anything to put the best line in front of Bradford. I really hope we find answers at LT and RT. I am not sure how the Packers coaches always find guys and get them to play at All-Pro level.

Because they are masters at holding and not getting called for it. It's unbelievable what they get away with.

We have the worst line I've seen since last year. How they did so little in the offseason to really address this boggles my mind.

They signed Boone and Smith, but when you're capped out it's kinda hard to improve. You can't have it all, and when you invest all your top picks on defense and offensive skill position players you shop the bargain bin for a line. Spielman deserves plenty of credit for having drafted so many top players, but he deserves to solid thrashing for completely ignoring the O-line.

It has had some bad luck for sure, but it was an area we should have been more aggressive with in draft.

Makes you wonder what the team would look like right now if the past two 1st round picks were used on the O-line! Waynes and Treadwell may well be studs someday, but they could really use couple studs on the line today! Of course that has to be balanced against how they valued the available linemen at the spots they drafted I guess.

It would be interesting. It is the waiting until 4th round that puzzled me. Cody Whitehair was a guy I wanted in the 1st this year and he has been a stud for Bears. Problem is we really need tackles and he is playing center. I still look at Packers and how they have gotten by with later picks. I just think we didn't do young of getting young guys over the last few years and this year iin general. We felt we could get by with patch work of Boone, Smith, Loadholdt, and Sullivan either joining the team or coming back off injury.
