https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31199202/new-york-jets-trade-qb-sam-darnold-carolina-panthers-3-draft-picks

"Darnold has one year remaining on his rookie contract, with guaranteed salary and bonuses totaling $4.6 million. The Panthers must decide on Darnold's fifth-year option for 2022 by May 3; the predetermined amount is $18.8 million, fully guaranteed. He was due to count $9.8 million on the Jets' cap, but they will get $4.8 million in relief and a $5 million "dead" charge for 2021."

That is a big pay bump in 2022 for Darnold. Teddy could come here as a backup here in 2022 and starter in 2023.

I'm not completely surprised that the Jets for that much. The Jets have been hapless on pretty much any level a legit coach and some talent around him (which the Panthers have a pretty solid team) and he could turn into something pretty good. For the Panthers maybe they saw Darnold and a better option to take a chance on than having to give up what they gave up for him and more to move up to get a QB. Teddy doesnt suck they might be able to trade him for something at some point.

For the Jets I think this was a no-brainer. Those are some solid picks and they are in the spot to draft a supposed stud QB because they sucked. Getting a 2022 2nd rounder for Darnold would he good but they also got a 4th and a 6th.

As for Teddy...he is 28 not old but not young. Honestly the team where he might be a good fit is the Bears but that may not happen for a year. It certainly sounded like the panthers were open to dealing Teddy. What are the open spots at this point?

You best have a strong arm if you plan on playing in soldier field. Wind is always a factor. Teddy does not have a strong arm. Don't like that as a fit for him.

You make a good point. I explain where I'm coming from. Jay Cutler is the most talented QB the Bears have had in like 30 years. The bears don't really have anyone that goes downfield anyway. I see them needing a guy that can make some short to medium throws maybe partly because of that weather...of course they end up playing a few games inside because of their division anyway. They need a game manager and someone that can extend some plays and somewhat consistently keep drives alive...assuming their D doesn't fall off that could make them a tough team. The reality is the bar is low their for QBs. Andy Dalton might actually do the trick there if he can still play. Another guy that would fit that mold I'm suggesting is Alex Smith. Is that type of QB going to get you to a super bowl? Probably not but again what Chicago QB the last 20+ years was going to?

Trevor Lawrence- Perennial Pro-Bowler. Top 5 Elite QB in a few seasons.

Zach Wilson- Never watched him play besides the highlights and some workouts. So I'm guessing very good Pro but not elite. Will throw a few too many Int's.

Justin Fields- Threw too many INt's and had some off games where the running game saved his butt. I see him as a backup eventually in 4-5 years. So bust.

Trey Lance- Only watched one game and he looked good, but it's against subpar competition. He scares me too much and I see backup as well in 4-5 seasons.

Mac Jones- Had a super impressive season and I watched every game. Was he a big part of the offense or was he simply surrounded by elite talent everywhere. I have too much doubt about him being successful under pressure which he wasn't often last season. I predict backup for him as well.

Kyle Trask- Watched a few games and highlights. Watched him light up the Alabama defense with 400 yards and 4 TD's. I was super impressed with him. Reminds me of Big Ben. Will he be that good? I'm going to say yes, but I feel like I'm out on a limb here. Most have him pegged as a 2-4th rounder. His talent around him was also superb like Mac Jones which maybe allowed the gaudy stats.

Kellen Mond- Saw him a couple games including against Alabama. I wasn't impressed with him in his decision making or accuracy. Backup.

Thank you for the write-up. So you are not very optimistic on this draft class of QBs.

Who else is hoping Sam Darnold can become a solid pro with the Panthers?

I'm certainly not cheering against him. He is in a pretty good situation to have success in terms of talent around him a solid organization and probably better coaching staff than what he had anytime with the Jets.

This offseason QBs brought such a high price it would have been a great offseason to have multiple QBs to deal. Lol

It would have been. It has been an interesting year. I like the Vikings defense going into next year if Hunter is healthy. If we can hit on a pair OL in the draft this team will surprisely good.

The defense could still use some depth at LB but the secondary has been shored up. If Hughes is healthy that would be a nice bonus but they aren't relying on that. I still like some of the other CB they have around. There might not be a spot for him especially after the draft when they will probably pick another CB at some point but I'd like to see Chris Jones stick around. If Gladney is out of the picture then it might open up a spot for him or someone similar.

I like the TEs on the roster and I also think it's a relatively easy spot to fill in with solid players but I think they will miss Rudolph to some extent. He was a pretty good all around player. But yeah if they can get even 1 olineman in the draft that's more than just a contributor this season I think that would be pretty good because I think they are going to be able to get a decent FA to sign here to plug a spot if needed. If you get your wish and they get 2 guys in the draft well then yes this team has a chance to be pretty good. I'll be curious to see if they can find another promising depth RB either in the draft or as an undrafted guy. Mattison is a FA after this year and I'll be surprised if they will be willing to pay him to come back but I guess you never know maybe that price won't end up being that high.

Teddy to Broncos.

The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday that they traded Bridgewater to the Denver Broncos for a sixth-round draft pick. Bridgewater, Carolina's starting QB in 2020, was expendable after the Panthers traded a second-round pick to the New York Jets for Sam Darnold earlier this offseason. The Panthers will receive pick No. 191 from the Broncos. Per ESPN, the Panthers will pay $7 million of Bridgewater's salary in 2021. Bridgewater's salary cap number in 2021 is approximately $22 million after the QB signed a three-year deal with the Panthers ahead of the 2020 season. Bridgewater's cap hit was just south of $14 million in 2020.

That's a solid spot for Teddy. Honestly I'm a little surprised the Panthers didn't get a little more for him especially since they are paying some of his salary. I don't think the Broncos are wildly invested in Teddy based on this deal but he should help them not suck at that position this year.
