Personally I think the trade between the Dodgers and the Twins is sort of even in terms of the additional assets going back and forth compared to the 3-way deal. It seems like one team getting something it wanted more than the other team. I like Luke Raley but there wasn't an obvious spot for him and we don't know what the Twins got back. Maybe a guy farther away to open up a 40 man spot or a pitcher or someone who plays in the infield (not at 1b). Losing Graterol and the 67th pick in the draft (lose the Slot money too) but imagine what kind of player you could spend 10 million bucks on in FA or a trade. Rosenthol said the Dodgers have to waive 2 guys to make this deal happen so they clearly liked Raley and wanted Graterol. I think this was a creative deal by both teams and while generally I like keeping as many young prospects as possible 10 million bucks for a draft pick is a lot and Maeda is a pretty good starting pitcher. It also seems we now know 3 MLB teams consider Graterol a reliever. That lowers how much to value him overall.
The Red Sox...it seems like they did ok in this deal after it was all said and done in terms of saving money and assets. They look dumb though etc. Dodgers look like a smart franchise.

Maybe to simple to look at it this way but that 10 mil in cash will basically pay for Maedas contract. He's making 3 mil a year.

That's one way to look At it. That salary is before before incentives which will push that salary up quite a bit. 10 million is a lot of money to put towards something regardless of how you look at it.
Meanwhile the Twins got back a 20 year old catching prospect. Another part of this deal is it did open up a 40 man roster spot. They can sign someone or add someone that's signed to a minor league deal out of sprint training etc to the roster without letting someone go. That's kinda valuable in a way. Basically they gave up Raley or whoever (when they are making final roster decisions coming north) they might have considered cutting for a younger longer shot prospect. Seems like a decent deal by itself. It's always good to get a catching prospect. Those guys even if they can't hit can have a little value.
Edit: they also have room to pick up a guy on waivers.

6 man rotation? I wouldn't mind seeing it after the all-star break. We seemed to have guys running out of gas later in the year.

I guess it's a good thing we didn't trade for Chris Sale. Of course who knows when baseball will start again.
