Yeah, and Maeda really struggling in the second inning. Oh how quickly the fortunes of this baseball team have turned after such a promising start.

It is hard to get excited about April baseball for me. Things don't seem to settle out until about a quarter of the way through the season.

So Rocco decides to pinch hit Sano in the 9th inning trailing by a run. Yeah that Sano...you know, the guy with the .083 batting average. You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict what happened.

Well to be fair he was pinch hitting for a fringe MLB player with a career .223 BA and .261 OBP.

I'm not too worried but yikes this has been a tough stretch. The 2nd game was the first in this losing streak where they lost by more than a run or 2.

True. And at the time I didn't know that Buxton was hurt...again. But why not Donaldson then? It's tough enough to pinch hit on a cold day, but damn near impossible when you're completely lost at the plate with an .079 average. I have no problem if Rocco wants to keep running Miguel out there to see if he can figure it out, but it wasn't fair to put him out there as a PH in a clutch situation with almost no hope of getting a hit. Not only was it bad decision from a game perspective, but setting up a struggling guy for failure can only damage his confidence further. Rocco made the right decision benching Sano against Eovaldi since he was 1-9 against him with 5 K's, but putting him out there against Barnes was inevitably going to be a confidence killer (if Miguel even has any confidence left). Donaldson would have been a much better option, and frankly even light-hitting Riddle had a better chance of getting a hit in that situation.

Yeah, this is a talented roster, but the inability to win close games is alarming. Hopefully they can salvage at least one game in this series...former ace Garrett Richards hasn't been good since his TJ surgery (now watch him throw a 2 hit shutout today!).

Eh I am mint that worried about losing close games this early in the season as something to indicate what type of team they will be a few months from now. For all we know they could rip off their own 9 game winning streak starting today. I'd certainly rather be losing close games than getting blown out especially since this roster isn't exactly completely healthy.

An odd but necessary win today. They wasted a superb pitching performance by Pineda by giving up three runs late. But Rocco's decision to finally bat Arraez and Kepler in the right spots paid off, as Luis had 4 hits and scored the winning run after leading off the 9th with a single, and Kepler eventually drove him in. Sano showed some signs of life with a couple walks and a HR...hopefully that wakes him up. At least he got his batting average back to three digits. On to LA with Buxton and Donaldson likely healthy (nice to have then in the lineup with all the lefties they'll throw at us), but anti-vaxxer Simmons ironically out with Covid,

Apparently Sano's confidence wasn't shattered by that pinch hitting spot he was put in. LoL

Yep, he's on a roll now. He's got his batting average back to .100...I predict it might be as high as .125 by the 4th of July!
