It was rainy and miserable there last night so we left before Hamilton's catch (in fact many of the fans left when they saw El Gasolino Colome coming in from the bullpen...we unfortunately stayed to watch him blow up again). I will say Sano was disappointing again. He did have one inconsequential line drive hit on a pitch left up, but the rest of his game was terrible. His other single was a dribbler through the vacated right side of the infield on a pitch that totally fooled him, and he also dribbled one to the pitcher in the second inning with one out and runners at second and third...a total rally killer in a close game. Then there was his fielding error and his horrible baserunning mistake...aren't we taught in little league not to try to go from second to third on a groundball hit to the left side? I will say he made a nice play on a hot smash that he fielded cleanly with a tough in between hop...as down as I am on Sano's bat and personal characteristics, I will admit he has always had a solid glove.
All that said, the starting pitching was fantastic...two fiery guys with great stuff totally locked in. And I got to see something in the 6th I've never seen. The clouds were lower in the stadium than I can ever remember, and Cruz's towering popup completely disappeared in the clouds. I turned to my brother and said Arraez should be running from first, because nobody can see the ball and it's not going to be caught. Luis probably made the safe play, but it was clear nobody had a clue where the ball was!
Thanks for the description about what happened with that pop up.
If someone wants to describe more what Sano with his baserunning I will listen. I don't think that will make it to the "highlights". Lol

We were down 2-1 and Sano was on second with one out. I didn't expect Simmons to bring him in, but I felt we had a good chance of getting a run with Arraez on deck. Simmons grounded one to the right of the SS, and inexplicably Sano decided to try to get to third. He realized his blunder about halfway there and stopped and got himself in a rundown (which he damn near got out of...he's a lot quicker than people think!). Net result was 2 outs and a runner now at first rather than second. Bush league move by one of the dumbest players in the league.

Sounds like a few different plays this season for the Twins. It's such a weird season the team just plays bad. Normally some blame goes to the manager (or in other sports coach) but honestly I don't even know if I can knock Rocco. It just seems like when it rains it pours type of deal guys just are doing dumb stuff and goofy things keep happening.
Jim Souhan always says that if Sano had grown up in Texas he would have been a football player probably a fearsome DL (at some level) or something. Sano is pretty athletic. Souhan also thinks if Sano was playing a more physically demanding sport he might have taken fitness more seriously.

Never understood the fat thing. Prince fielder. David Ortiz. Even Miguel Sano for 2 seasons all fat and can hit. That's why baseball is great bat speed is still bat speed no matter size or weight.

Sano was also had some problems staying healthy. What that because of his weight? Maybe maybe not but I think that was part of the criticism which is at least a little bit fair. I also think Sano really did simply have some shitty luck. It probably mattered a bit more when he was playing 3b too. Like I said before fat or less fat Sano is a good athlete.
Honestly I'm more with you I don't think it probably matters that much. I also tend to think that the past what like 3 years Sano has looked more fit and these last 2 seasons it doesn't seem to have helped much. Souhan ripped Sano a few years ago in his column because he heard Sano simply wasn't staying in good shape. Souhan has also said Sano is a big powerful dude and has said he has covered a lot of sports and so he has seen plenty of athletes. He said part of Sano looking like a big dude is he is big dude big frame etc which is why he said he might have been a d-lineman if he was in Texas. He also has a couple funny stories about Miguel Cabrera eating food. Let's just say he didn't exactly treat his body like a temple. Lol

Lots of guys play in the OF but that was a weird decision.
Twins get a win tonight and Meada looked to be on point again. I wonder if he keeps this up if a team comes with an offer to make the Twins think about dealing him. Honestly I doubt it with the contract he has they are probably gonna have to be kinda blown away especially since basically they would only have Berrios on payroll for the rotation next year. I would assume they will want to bring back Pinada but that's not a certainty he would come back.
Are the Twins making Falvine's "sell" decision a little more difficult with their recent better play and wins? They are still not a great team with Buxton out, but their pitching and hitting is noticeably improved. I guess I would still entertain great offers for Donaldson or Cruz, but I'm not moving Berrios.
What an odd year though. They could end the year with 4 hitters with more than 100 ABs over .300 (Cruz, Arraez, Buxton and even Kim Jung-Tai if he returns), but they also could have three hitters with more than 100 ABs under .200 (Sano, Cave and Jeffers...and even Kepler, Garver and Simmons aren't guaranteed to stay over the Mendoza line). Maybe I'm a hopeless optimist, but I'm feeling pretty good about next season if Buxton returns. Larnach and Kirilloff will take away ABs from Kepler and Sano, and I look for a bounce back year from our rotation with Berrios, Maeda and Pineda on top.

I always thought with Berrios it would take a ridiculous offer from another team for the Twins to trade him.
One of the issues you have to look at when you consider trading some players is how stocked your minor league system is. I am not going to say they are or aren't stocked or at what positions but you can only keep so many prospects and find them places to get opportunities to play. Sometimes I would guess there are possible trades for major league players that go nowhere because the teams considering a trade are stocked at similar positions. I mean the Twins aren't going to be interested in trading for a good prospect that's a corner OF or 1B guy. They have a bunch of them already.
