Playoff rotation adjusted net rating

Post by Phenom »

I was listening to a recent duncd on pod with Dan Feldman revealing his playoff rotation adjusted net rating. He compared regular season net rating to the net rating of players expected to be in the playoff rotation, essentially dropping players that won't play from the equation.

Denver is #1 in the league in this metric. #2? Your Minnesota Timberwolves. They were both 9+ points better. That is with a 1200 minute sample size which Feldman says is around average.

Injury and illness certainly plays a part in this but I think foul trouble probably does as well.

If the Wolves can stay healthy and out of foul trouble they could disrupt the playoff picture.

Interesting. I'd be curious to see more details about how this metric comes together.

Here is a breakdown from his same process for last year's playoffs. The top teams from each conference adjusted last season was Golden State and Boston who met in the Finals. I have not seen a post from him about the numbers this year but he and Nate Duncan discussed it recently.

So again for this season the Nuggets and Wolves are the top 2 --- and could very well face off in the 1-8 matchup.
