A game like today is a reminder to me that I will never get off the idea that Rudy trade or not, they were missing the playoffs anyway.
I am hoping they missed the PO's, mainly because I told Q that would happen after the trade deadline.
I know it is crazy to expect them to fire TC, but maybe they bring in a coach that knows how to work the officials, and get on players that are under-performing. Let's hope that the new ownership doesn't take the same "wait and see" approach that Glen has for many years.
The first personnel move should be moving Rudy for whatever you can get. The guy is a sieve down low, and is handcuffing KAT's offensive game. Have to admit having TC executing anymore trades frightens me, but we are stuck with him. I would like to see KAT starting next Kyle with McD, Ant and MC. I think they would be able to defend and would be unstoppable on the offensive end. No reason not to try it before the end of the season.
I agree completely, sjm. The KAT-Rudy combo didn't work the first part of the season before KAT went down and it's not working now. Without KAT, our other all-star (Edwards), McDaniels and our super max acquisition (Rudy) played the vast majority of games and ended up at around a .500 clip, including two losses to Detroit and a loss to the Hornets among others. I don't know what last season's team would have done this season with KAT going down, but they finished 10 games over .500 last season so I suspect they would have won more games before KAT went down. That's a pretty good bet. I also suspect (although it's more speculative) that this team would have won more games after KAT went down with the substantially improved Ant and McDaniels combining with Vando, Beasley, Beverley, Anderson, Naz and Kessler.
Speculation aside, what we know is that this isn't a very good team. And I agree with Abe that it's 100% on the players. And that tells me we need to change the roster. As you said, those changes should start with dealing Rudy.
I feel like I'm the Twilight Zone when it comes to revisionist history with Kessler. The only way Kessler stays outta Iowa is if KAT never played at all. Otherwise, you have Reid, SlowMo, Kessler, Vando and KAT (and to a lesser extent Prince) fighting over those minutes in what would eventually be a shorter rotation anyway (and then we'd still be debating whether KAT could function with Kessler, let alone everyone else)
The team simply wasn't gonna be better regardless. Finch hasn't done as good of a job, the injury bug hit anyway-- they lucked out with that last season and the Wolves placed their faith in guys who simply didn't get the job done in Nowell and McLaughlin. The idea that Kessler was gonna break through the stars of stars in the frontcourt while Wendell Moore can't sniff the floor while we have nothing worth a damn behind our backcourt says it all.
Now, do I think there will be changes? Sure. Do I think there's this golden parachute for a KAT trade, let alone a Gobert trade? Absolutely not, and a big reason why other than their huge contracts is that other GM's and teams don't like them as people.
