Jester offseason Plan

Post by Jester1534 »

Thought I do my annual plan. Based on the numbers I have looked at I'll be doing this based around 60-65 million dollars based how much salary there shredding. Obviously the could spend more "cough cough" or less :( but you never know with the Pohlads.

First of all I sign Manny Machado. 10 years for 300 million. With Mauer contract off the books it's timw for a new big fish the twins need a SS and Polanco can play 2nd base and is probably better suited there.

30 mil/year

2. I actually don't have Machado play SS I have him play 3rd base and I Promote Royce Lewis to play SS. This year we saw more 19 years old come in the league and contribute. I stood by the pick when it was made. Royce Lewis is ready for the big leagues.

3. This is a reach but a little outside the box. I'd trade Miguel Sano for Miguel Cabrera and have the Tigers eat half his Salary. Cabrera contract is terrible (30 mil for 5 more seasons) but I believe he still has 2-3 good years left in him. Why the tigers do this? They get a young power hitter and they get out off half the salary they owe. They're in full rebuild mode and need somebody to take him. Also I'm done with Sano as a player there's plenty of guys who can strike out 200+ times and hit 30 bombs in a season

13-15 mill

4. Trade Max Kepler and Nick Gordon and filler (Probably one of our pitching prospects) for JT Realmuto and Kyle Barraclough. I think good trade for the twins they be getting back a catcher who had bounce back year and the 3rd best war for catchers last year and a very reliable reliever who could be a closer.

Hard to tell on these guys but will say 2 mil on arbitration.

4. Twins sign AJ Pollock 3 years 30 mil. I'm in a camp that believes if Pollock had not had an injury bug he be consider a top tier outfielder. I think he's a good gameble that won't make as much because of the injury concerns. I think we will have to give him the extra year to have him stay here, but he also could do a 1 year prove it deal.

10 mil per year

5. Keep the rotation the same and just put in Romero in the 5th spot. I feel like the starting staff was good enough to win the division and with the return of Pineda should help towards a better rotation as well.

6. Give Andrew Miller a 21 million for 3 years. Miller was injured this last year and is 34 years old. He made 9 mil last year but based on age and health I don't think he will make that much. He's the lefty the twins need in the bullpen

7 million

That puts me at 64 million dollars for the year and that puts at 110 million dollars. To put in perspective with bonuses last year the twins payed out 115 million. This would be the line up.

Buxton CF
Pollock LF
Machado 3B
Cabrera 1B
Rosario RF
Polanco SS
Realmuto C
Cave DH Platoon with Austin
Lewis SS

SP
Berrios
Gibson
Odorizzi
Pineda
Romero

Rp
Last spot filled in spring training, hopefully internally.
May
Hildenbeger
Rogers
Miller
Barraclough
Reed

Thoughts fellas? I know the Cabrera stuff is a reach lol

I am not a big fan of contracts over 5 years for any player. Manny just has to many flags and I am curious who will pay him and have buyers remorse. If the Dodgers don't make a strong push to resign him then I think that is all we need to know about him.

Bold out-of-the-box defensive thinking, jester, with 2 shortstops on the field  !

Lots to digest here and I haven't had my coffee yet, but some interesting ideas here. More later.

I like the rest of this. I will be curious what the payroll will be next year. Do they dare have a sub 100M payroll?

Technical 3 shortstops. I just think Machado defensive numbers are way better at 3rd and Polanco has always been more suited for 2nd base.

I've seen some rough numbers from 2018 that the revenue was 261M this year on some websites. Teams usually do half their revenue as there payroll. The twins according to this site payed 133 mil in player expenses. The point is the twins have a boatload of money to spend this offeseason and I believe the Indians are starting to loose pieces and the division is up for grabs.

Just wanted to point out the Indians are going to be losing a bunch of players just like KC had to do after there run. Yes the could sign some of them back I just don't think they will.

Brantley
Allen
Miller
Tomlin
Perez
Chiesnhall
Davis
Donaldson
That's basically there whole bullpen.

I think it will come down to how much they can get for the money. I am not like most, but I would be willing to go modest in FA and see how this group does and if they are competing we can take on salary during the year to add what we need.

Dodgers don't need him they have there stud in Seager coming back from Injury. Machado was always a rental to them. I think media turns Machado into more of villain than anybody else. You never hear a bad word about him from his teammates. I think he's one those guys who's cocky and has a temper sometimes which wouldn't be a bad thing for the twins who have been so bland with leadership the past 8 years
