Conley Trade

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

I think we need to give credit where it's due. Connelly was able to get NAW and 3 2nd round picks as throw-ins for the Russell-Conley swap. Hopefully the Gobert trade will be a rare black mark on his Wolves resume.

It's probably too early to "give credit where it's due" when it's only been seven games. Nickeil Alexander-Walker is an intriguing young player, and the draft picks may or may not be meaningful down the road, but the team is still performing worse overall after the trade in terms of net rating. Let's see how the rest of the season goes and what player they can turn Mike Conley Jr. into this summer or next year.

Connelly doesn't do well when Gobert is involved in a trade. I guess we better keep him!!! Lol

They're literally a worse team at the moment because of that trade. Perhaps give it time to see if that corrects itself.

You are the one who suggested selling high! Kudos to you, too! :)

And while the Gobert trade will forever be regarded as an over pay, who cares if in the end we make legit runs toward the finals for a few years? Gobert was brought in to improve our paint protection and our rebounding. We easily forget how bad we were in those two areas last year...

Yeah, I know I am counting the chickens before they hatch!

I did indeed, thanks for remembering. Now DLO is hurt and not doing anyone any good.

This is simply not true. Take away KAT from last year's team and we don't make the playoffs. The team is playing .500+ ball this year without KAT.

[Edit: I mis-read your post. I thought you were comparing this team to last year's team, but you were referring to the team pre/post the Dlo trade. I cannot really comment because I have missed the recent games. But it sure seems like we are playing pretty well. Even the losses were a result of poor execution down the stretch. Seems like we are in a pretty good place right now! ]

It's still very early. But since you tee'd it up, here are the early VORP returns:

[th]Player[/th]
[th]Games[/th]
[th]VORP[/th]

DLO
4
0.1

Conley
7
0.1

NAW
6
0.0

So, it's a push at this point, which would be a "win" for us considering we accumulated three additional picks. But I think we know the real point of the trade was not so much DLO vs. Conley, but more what Conley might do for Rudy's game. Here's Rudy's per game splits before and after the trade:

[th]Time Frame[/th]
[th]PPG[/th]
[th]RPG[/th]

Pre-Trade
13.2
11.4

Post-Trade
16.8
12.3

The post trade splits are pretty much in line with what Rudy put up his last three (All Star) years in Utah. Let's hope that keeps up.

Still way to still way to early at the moment. Still fine with the trade but it's not like the wolves have been any significantly better. If you think the picks and having that salary slot is better for a wash for on court production to slightly worse production that is cool with me
