That's the biggest thing for me. They now cannot trade a pick until 2031 lol. They blew all of their draft trade capital on Gobert.
2 picks + Kessler + Bev/Beas/filler and I'd be on board. Instead they gave up 2 more picks and threw in Vando, who would have been very nice to have on the bench.
I get this concern but feasibly in next 5 years who are they going to trade a first round pick for.
This move is to make trade market buy outs come play for us not to actually make the trade in the first place.
The picks going to Utah, per sources: unprotected 1sts in 23, 25, 27, a swap in '26 and a top 5 protected in '29
You have to pay to get top players in today's league, but holy shit this is a lot to give up.
For the record, I would NOT have made this trade. For Tim Connelly's sake, I hope the Timberwolves win a championship in the next half-decade. This is the definition of an all-in move.
Gobert is already 30, they better win one in the next couple!

Minnesota can still trade their first-round picks on future draft nights, and I expect that to remain an option in the future. We might need to expect that actually as that is one avenue to recouping draft capital via trading down or out of their slot. They're just handcuffed when it comes to trading future first-round picks. They definitely went all-in here.
Question:
Would you rather give up what they inevitably did, or would you rather give up Jaden McDaniels and only three unprotected first-round picks? That seems like what it probably came down to.
6 million for Drummond seems even better now.
But you know what? Fuck it. It'll be fun to see this play out. We'll have a lineup unlike any other team in the league. Our first true rim protector in franchise history and we'll finally see what Towns can do predominately from the PF. It's not like we've been spoiled with a winning tradition here. So what do we have to lose? Cough cough, besides 4 1st rounders.

We are going to win a lot of games and it is going to be fun to be a Wolves fan again. The only negative is the constant DLO nutsucking we are going to have to continue to read from you. We all know how you feel about him (1 million times over), can you do us a favor and impose a DLO moratorium on yourself? The board would be so much more enjoyable.
This continues to be personal for you somehow. If you don't enjoy the board because of my presence or you are triggered by my responses to other people here, simply ignore what I say or leave the board. Nobody else will call you out on it, but this type of response is entirely uncalled for and it's typical of the personality you've always been here.
Let's not make this thread about anything besides Timberwolves basketball and the acquisition of Rudy Gobert.
You're a pretty good poster, but I have a lot of trouble getting past your irrational Dlo love too. So it's not just him. There's a backhanded compliment in there... I guess we all have our faults... yours is that you're the president and only member of the Dlo fan club... you probably have an entire room at your house dedicated to him lol... kidding (kinda) :)

True, I meant to include that, but it definitely removes a lot of flexibility for them and they have to deal with verbal draft night agreements.
If I HAD to pick 1 of those options I'm keeping Jaden for sure, I just don't think it's wise for a team to get into that situation. The "it could have been worse" narrative some are saying just isn't where I set the bar.
I can't think of another trade with a team giving up this many draft assets for 1 player. No doubt he's a star and the analytics love him, but man.. FIVE picks. Their top 2 salaried players are now non ball handlers.

lol, to be fair though, he's also entertained the idea of trading him and weighs in whether he thinks a situation improves the team or not.
If we want to talk about irrational fan clubs we should look at Kirk Cousins as a good example haha
