Jon K and Jake Fischer Pod notes

Post by kekgeek »

I stole this from Reddit. But it was interesting.

-Ant is still eating fast food and rivers told him to stop eating McDonald's

- Russel does want to remain in MN long term

- Wolves will be patient with the roster

- Wolves don't want to trade Naz and they value him a lot. They realize he has value though.

- Austin Rivers is filling the leadership void

- Pat Bev really wants to come back to Minnesota and wolves would welcome him back only if he has bought out

- Jon K says again Pat Bev really wants to be back in MN

- Wolves are glad the kept Mcdaniels over the extra picks.

-Dlo has not asked out not will go into FA. Extension talks have died.

Interesting stuff, I may go listen to the whole thing. Jon K is the most grounded and reliable of the various beat guys.

Get with the times Lip it's not a trade block anymore. A couple years ago someone pointed out that the trade block was too hard to get chairs around and also was also too small to fit all the proposals on. Robert Sarver got a great deal on an epic round table some knights weren't using anymore and passed the bill onto the league. Only problem with the table is now it's hard to get all the snacks and coffee onto it because it's too big. Fortunately the league has all those wingspan numbers so they can hire some more servers who can reach closer to the middle of the table. Glen Taylor did suggest a massive lazy Susan so that has been commissioned and will be added before this year's trade deadline really heats up.

Jon Krawczynski:

"I have not heard anything about D'Angelo Russell requesting a trade. That would come as news to me, I will say, so I don't think that those rumors are true."

"The Timberwolves and D'Angelo Russell's representatives have sort of had off and on discussions about contract extensions from, you know, starting in the summer, you know, up through the fall, and they never could kind of align on anything that both sides were comfortable with. And so it looks very much like he is going to go into next summer as a free agent."

As someone who actually wants to see the Timberwolves and D'Angelo Russell find middle ground on a contract extension, I'm relieved that there was some confirmed level of interest from the organization in working out a new deal with him. I expected as much considering how the off-season inevitably unfolded, but that hadn't been reported yet, to my knowledge. He's a good-not-great player and the Timberwolves do have a need for what he's able to do. I remain hopeful that something eventually makes sense for both parties because I do think keeping Russell in Minnesota is most-beneficial for all involved.

However, we don't know the terms or figures that were exchanged from either party, which means we have no clue how far apart the two sides are, or were, in negotiations. We simply don't know. And if I'm someone that, for whatever reason, doesn't want Russell to return after this season, then I would be relieved that they haven't been able to come to an agreement by now. Most signs do point towards Russell testing free agency after the season.

It would be foolish not to trade him before the deadline. Get something for him even if it's $.10 on the dollar. We can't contend with him getting starters minutes, and he would never accept a part-time role off the bench. He will always be a liability in the playoffs. Time to cut bait and embrace the future without him.
