It will be interesting to see how he does for Utah this upcoming season (that's if he's not traded).
Yep. Pretty much my take. And... he's DEFINITELY getting out of Utah.
Utah is in in full-tank mode. Beverley would be a nightmare on such a team at this point in his career. I think he was a positive player last year, but I think that act would wear thinner and thinner as time progressed.
[Note: On the Gobert trade talk banter, I'm probably most concerned/frustrated/miffed/upset/confused that the Timberwolves brass were basically bidding against the Jazz running it back... when others were already pushing the idea that the Jazz were in full tank mode. Ainge's history and his hiring an unknown and unproven coach for FIVE years should have been telltale signs in hindsight, no?]
We have a massive thread dedicated to the pros and cons of how the Gobert trade played out and whether the Wolves overpaid. My contention is that we overpaid vs. the market for Gobert's services but we didn't necessarily overpay relative to how he fits the Wolves' needs. At the end of the day we kept 8 of our 11 top rotation players, didn't lose any of our three most valuable assets (KAT, Ant, Jaden), and added Gobert. When you look at the end result we got a future HoFer and all-time defensive great without giving up any of our top existing players.

Sure. Look forward to celebrating a lot more wins this season.
We'll let the future chips fall where they may down the line...

Abe - You've articulated my frustration with our front office in the Gobert deal. I think they were bidding against themselves to an extent and gave up more than they needed to because they actually entertained the idea that the Jazz might actually keep Gobert. That's why the rest of the League is so pissed at the Wolves for this deal. No one was going to give Utah close to what the Wolves gave up for Gobert. The fact that the Jazz were headed into a full rebuild mode was readily apparent the minute Snyder decided to leave. Then we hear stories about the Jazz shopping Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. The clincher was when they traded O'Neal for a future 1st. You don't need hindsight to know Ainge had decided to rebuild.

I'll say this...I'm not sure that hiring an unproven coach means anything. How many rookie head coaches have been in the Finals the last few years?

Q - That's a good distinction. While it seems clear to me that the Wolves overpaid versus the market, you make a good point that the Wolves arguably didn't overpay relative to the net benefit Gobert will provide the Wolves.
