Jordan McLaughlin

Post by Monster »

Below is kind of a fun article with a bunch of stats that are interesting.

I'll add that in 39 games McLaughlin who is a PG has only 20 turnovers. He has more steals (29) than turnovers and has racked up 110 assists. He hasn't turned the ball over in 7 games. A 5th of all his turnovers this season came in that Boston win where he had 4 turnovers but also dished out 10 assists.

I think we've all seen an uptick in JMac's game the past few weeks, but it's interesting to read an article that presents some different data...kudos to the high school kid who came up with all of that! Thanks for posting, monster.

I found the speed/pace info very revealing. He does seem quite good at breaking down his defender, and his quickness has turned him into a somewhat disruptive defender too. Dane Moore tweeted this at one point last week:

Last 3.5 Wolves games...

65 minutes with Jordan McLaughlin on the floor: +53
103 minutes with McLaughlin off the floor: -14

Obviously he was helped during that stretch by some hot shooting by the other reserves, but what is the correct cause and effect? This writer notes how much better certain players shoot when on the court with JMac...perhaps his faster pace leads to more open looks before the defense has a chance to set up.

Yesterday was a great example of why we need our bench to keep stepping up. No starter except Ant's + 13 was positive, and even with Ant's terrific game, the starters were only +2 against a very mediocre team missing two starters. The bench though was a combined +43, with JMac leading the pack at +16 in 17 minutes. His combination of fast pace, disruptive defense and refusal to turn the ball over has him playing at a high level. I won't go as far as Finchy who says he is in many ways the team MVP recently, but I agree with the coach's decision to give him Nowell's minutes.
