I wouldn't trade anyone that good for a meh catcher even Gordon. The catchers at AAA are basically guys I have t heard of except that super high contract pudgy guy. It would make sense if they could add a vet type guy on a minor league deal or something just as protection against another injury.
The Twins have been playing without 3-4 starters and arguably their best SP, and are 4 games under .500...but amazingly they are only 1 1/2 games out of first. The main reason for this? They are lucky to play in by far the worst division in baseball. Not one team in the AL Central is over .500, and the 5 teams are an astonishing 44 games below .500. Cleveland is underperforming based on the talent level they have, and there's no reason the Twins can't leap frog over them once Santana, Polanco and Sano return. I'm pretty optimistic at this point in the season.
Not Bill Smith's finest moment...he traded Wilson Ramos for closer Matt "Fat" Capps :(
I agree with LST the Twins didn't get value for him and the way things panned out he would have been nice to have around but really he didn't turn into an absolute stud either and a lot of that was due to injuries I believe. Also let's agree that I'm not sure anyone expected Matt Capps to basically drop off the face of the earth a couple years later. If he had been a solid set up guy for the Twins for the next 5 years the trade looks more ok.

I just think it's crazy in 2010, we could've traded Aaron Hicks, Wilson Ramos and Gibson. For 3 years of control of Cliff Lee. At least that was the rumor at the time.
If I remember correct that was the resurgence of Pavano year and Liriano last great season.

Ramos has always been above average catcher but injuries have really bogged down his whole carrer. He's only had 3 seasons where he played 100 games or more in.
Also the problem with Capps is that we already had our future stud closer on the roster in Perkins but management wouldn't roll the dice on him.

Hughes was DFA'd. Nobody is going to claim him on waivers so is he going to get released or does he go to the minors?
Too bad about Hughes...great guy who cashed in on one terrific season 3 years ago. But he's clearly just doesn't have it anymore.
How about Fernando Rodney? 10 consecutive 1-inning outings now without giving up a run, and only 2 hits during that stretch. He did the same thing last year...a horrible April and then lights out the rest of the year.
It's a long season but it's starting to look a little more bleak. Mauer had a setback with his concussion symptoms the AAA shuttle is rolling and the Twins are coming up short. A couple days ago the Royals won with some absolutely terrific defense while the Twins has some poor plays. The next game the Royals has a couple goofs and the Twins couldn't pull it out. I think this team can still pull together and have a good seasonnbut they are in a bit of a hole right now.
