Lillard

Post by kekgeek »

If I am the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Wolves keep their pick I am going all in to try and acquire Lillard. The Blazers are in such a weird spot, they are capped out and were healthy this playoffs outside of Zach Collins who is always hurt and just average anyways and they lost in 6 to the Murray less Nuggets. Norman Powell is a free agent, I don't think CJ has a ton of value (I think he can get a player who is decent back but not a player that can get the Blazers into the title picture), they have no draft picks going forward because they used 2 1st to acquire Covington. I just think they will not be in the title picture with Lillard what is sad because he is a stud.

If the Wolves keep their pick and lets say its the #1 pick would you do this or would the blazers do this.

Wolves get: Lillard and Derrick Jones (He did not play in game 6 and has a 9 million player option)

Blazers get: #1 pick, Beasley, Dlo, Mcdaniels, Reid and a future 2025 lotto protected pick.

Wolves roster would look like
PG: Lillard/Rubio/Jmac
SG: Ant/Nowell/Bolmaro
SF: Okogie/Jones/Culver
PF: Vandy/Hernangomez/Layman
C: Kat

Wolves would still have their MLE and would in my opinion by an instant title contender.

The Blazers need to trade CJ and should have done it a long time ago. They can't stop anybody, and are wildly inconsistent.

I agree with you but what are they really going to get what is going to make a big difference. He is going to be 30, he is a 0 time all star and has proven he won't be a #2 option on a title team so Im not sure his value will vault the Blazers into title contention.

I think the Wolves need to keep McDaniels if they are going to really go after Dame. That's a lot to give up for Lillard and to be honest I don't know if pairing him with Towns and Edwards would be enough to win a championship. The PF and SF position is still a problem that Dame isn't going to be able to solve.

There is no way in hell they trade Lillard without Ant included as part of the deal.

Yep.

Lillard is beloved. He's been loyal. He's excelled and become an All NBA guy. And we expect the Blazers to send away arguably the franchise's favorite player at the peak of his game... for piece parts and the incredibly slim chance that one of the draft picks becomes remotely as good and loyal and as good of a leader as Lillard several years later? All while ensuring the perennial playoff team becomes a lottery team for the near future?

Not even Edwards added to the group above is enough for Portland fans to agree with that trade. .

Portland was 29th in defensive efficiency. It seems like a solveable problem without requiring a re-build, no? Of course, the Wolves on paper are largely in a similar position. Some great offensive talent on paper, but crappy defense. We may be competing for the same kind of players!
