Re: Around the league thread
LaMelo is going to run away with the ROY award. He's on a different level than Wiseman or Edwards. Mike Schmitz was right. I have no idea how someone goes from the NBL to the NBA and takes a huge leap in productivity and efficiency but he's done it.

A reminder for me that Mike Schmitz is a really good basketball mind who has a great knack for judging young talent. The Wolves should hire him to replace Rosas or at least as Gersson's #2.

Ball with a triple-double tonight. Shot seems just fine. Dammit!

Good news for the Wolves then. Schmitz really likes Edwards.

Ball has been a lot better then I thought but let's give it time is not super small sample size and he has been Dlo bad on D

I honestly think the NBL gives rookies a head start compared to playing in the NCAA. Playing against men in a very physical league where officials don't favour any players.
Would we have been better to take LaMelo instead of Edwards (and not trade for Rubio)? I'm not sold on that as I think Edwards is a rare physical talent.

I agree on this, it is crazy though how bad he shot in the NBL and now hitting shots in the NBA

Some other nice performances today from rookies and free agents signed this year:
Deni Avdija: 20 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals. 7-15 FG, 5-9 3-pointers
Bobby Portis: 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and +6.
Haliburton: 12 points on 5-8 shooting along with 8 assists and 1 steal.

Draymond Green on James Wiseman: "He gets too frustrated with himself. He gets so frustrated he kind of takes himself out of his game. I told him, I probably had one of the worst games of my career last night, but made some plays down the stretch. You have to be able to forget."

I get that Ball got a head start, not least of which he was actually able to play and train as a full-time paid professional. But still, usually how you produce in a league below the caliber of the NBA is a good indicator of what to expect in the NBA. He couldn't shoot, finish, or defend worth a damn. We knew he'd be a great passer, but he's literally doing better in the NBA as an all-around player than the NBL. That's crazy to me.
It's too early to know if Ball or Edwards is the better pick for the Wolves. But it's not too early to say LaMelo is the better player right now. 4 or 5 years from now? We'll see.
