Connelly and Finch have been pretty open about their interest in upgrading the other big position next to KAT with more size, rebounding and rim protection than we get from Vando or any of our current roster players. And we've seen reports that the Wolves have expressed interest in Capela and Gobert. There are still some unsigned free agents like Nurkic and Mitchell Robinson who might be potential sign-and-trade targets. The list goes on.
The question in this thread is who you would list as a realistic target for the sort of starting caliber big who would improve the team and how would you Rand those targets from preferred to least preferred. As part of your ranking, take into account how much you believe the Wolves would realistically have to give up to get the player, how well they'd fit and how much their contract would potentially limit the team's financial flexibility.
With all that in mind, here's my list:
1. Capela -- Best fit for what we need (defense/rebounding/rim protection). Would take less to get than Gobert. Also, younger with much more team-friendly contract than Gobert. Not sure how gettable he is with he Hawks intent on trading Collins. But I think he's in play and the Wolves should pursue him.
2. Myles Turner -- He might be an even better fit than Capela if not for his durability issues. His rebounding doesn't equal Capela's, but he's an even better rim protector and brings an offensive game that Capela doesn't have. He's definitely a realistic target given Indiana's rebuild. Would Beasley and Naz be enough? Maybe. Might need to add a future lottery-protected 1st or Spagnolo, which wouldn't be terrible.
3. Nurkic -- I think he'll likely stay in Portland, but maybe the Blazers would prefer an elite 3-point shooter like Beasley and younger offensive big like Naz over the injury-prone Nurkic. So I still think he's a marginally realistic sign-and-trade target for the Wovles. If healthy, he'd be a great fit for the Wolves with his defense and rebounding. And he also provides some offense.
4. Richaun Holmes -- Perhaps the most realistic target in that I think the Wolves would have to give up less to get him than they'd have to give up for Capela or Turner. He's not the rim protector or defender that Capela and Turner are, but he's still a very good defender and rebounder.
