2022 NBA Draft Surprises and Mysteries

Post by Lipoli390 »

There were some surprises and even some mysterious happenings in last night NBA draft. I was surprised to see LaRavia taken at 19 in the Wolves slot. I saw his as a low 1st or higher 2nd-round pick, but not as high as 19. I was even more surprised that Branham slid all the way down to #20. He's a really good player and was expected in every mock I saw to go in the top 15. The fact that the Spurs nabbed him simply confirms that he'll probably end up the steal of the draft. :) I was surprised to see Braun picked at 21 by Denver. I assumed he'd be picked at 28 or lower. I thought Roddy would be a high to mid 2nd-round pick, not the #23 pick. Ty Ty dropped lower than I expected. I thought he'd be selected in the top 20, but he ended up sliding to 29. And whatever the Knicks did (I'm still not sure what they did) I didn't see coming. But we're talking about the Knicks, so we shouldn't be surprised. I sure hope Brunson re-signs with Dallas. :)

With all those surprises I've listed above, the biggest surprises were Liddell falling two 41 and Kendall Brown falling to 48. Liddell slide to 41 is downright mysterious. I have to believe there's a back story there. I know he's undersized for the PF position. In fact that was my main concern with him and the reason I wouldn't have taken him at 19. But I still had him ranked in the 1st round as did every mock draft and expert big board. And in spite of his size, he had impressive athletic test results in the combine. Moreover, there are NBA precedents for successful undersized bigs build like Liddell. So what caused him to unexpectedly fall so far? We may never find out, but I'm convinced there's a backstory that goes beyond his short arms.

That's a good summery Lip.

The Knicks moves were really something. Right now they have quite the collection of future picks. I don't know what they will do with them but trading their pick this year for 3 future picks wasn't a bad piece of work. I'm not sure about what they did to dump Kemba but all I know is we have their 2nd rounder via Charlotte so we have extra incentive for them to suck! Lol they drafted Trevor Keels in the 2nd round and maybe he doesn't work out but at that spot of the draft I think he is a a terrific value. The Knicks have low key done fairly well with lower picks lately.

Other surprises are:

Peyton Watson at 30 although it did seem he was rising. Meanwhile Kennedy Chandler dropped to 38.

This is kind of random but IMO Branham looks like some other basketball player and I can't figure it out. Maybe a more content looking Ron Artest? Help. Lol
