Maybe under Finch and Connelly, but not with that jackass Thibs coaching and making personnel decisions. Thibs with both Butler, KAT and a future all-star Wiggins and a former all-star Teague, and he barely managed to get the 8th seed.
I have often wondered had we a decent developmental coach like Kenny Atkinson, who I preferred over Thibs, maybe KAT, Lavine and Wiggs could have meshed together and a competent GM could have built pieces (we had pick #5 in 2016 and pick #7 in 2017 and a lot of salary cap space) to compliment them. I guess we'll never know. But we do know that the rent-a-Jimmy didn't work out here.
- Once again, start building the statues for Spoelstra and Riley. Doesn't matter if they lose Game 7 or win and lose the Finals. Just an incredibly mentally tough franchise that just permeates everything that they do and gets the most out of players.
- To Kek's earlier point in this thread, Bam is frustrating to watch at times. He had one game where he went into attack mode with great success, but otherwise he's very passive offensively, preferring instead to get rid of the ball quickly and set illegal screens (that rarely get called - he and Horford have made it into a true art form). They need his offense!
- You know you have a good defense when the opposing team is hunting out Derrick White for the mismatch. White is a hell of a defender, yet who else can you target on the C's? The Wolves may be have two guys as good as White defensively. That's how big the gap is between a defense like the Wolves (which was pretty good this past season) and the level the Celtics are playing at.
- Jaden McDaniels could eventually be a real weapon defensively against some of these elite guards and wings in the playoffs. His length and ability to move his feet is elite. But he has GOT to get stronger or he is going to get beaten to a pulp, especially if the Wolves ever make a deep playoff run. These guys are in MMA matches off the ball and the refs do truly call the game differently.
- It feels like whichever team comes out of the East had the tougher road than Golden State had and therefore I'd give them the edge. But you can't discount the Warriors' ability to just make shots. They have three of the elite shooters in the NBA and they know how to spring them loose.
I don't know why, but I find myself rooting for the Heat. Grant Williams really bugs me for some reason.
I watched most of the 4th quarter and it was. an enjoyable back and forth. I was kinda going for the Celtics but then I was like but if the Heat win it goes to game 7 so that swung me that way. Butler was terrific.
