I tend to agree with the sentiment that Wiggins was put in the absolute perfect environment for him to succeed, and to his credit, he stepped up in the playoffs. It just didn't work in Minnesota after 6 seasons of losses and frustration and the Wolves and Golden State are better off for that trade. Reasonable people can agree to disagree on this point.

I will be very interested to see how Wiggins does if indeed he goes and signs a big deal with another team as a #1A or #1B type player and no longer has Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr around.

Interesting question about what Wiggins ends up doing. The first question to ponder is whether the Warriors will offer him an extension beyond next season or allow Wiggins to play out his contract and become an UFA next summer. If that happens, I wonder what sorts of offers he'll get from other teams. If he plays next season the way he's played in this year's playoffs, he should get some really lucrative offers. As a seriously cap-strapped team I suspect the Warriors would re-sign Wiggins under those circumstances. And I suspect Wiggins would like to remain with the Warriors. He's not a dumb guy and I think he knows that his success this season is related to his teammates and coaches with the Warriors.

Yep. He's high on the redemption tour right now.

He's built up a lot of goodwill. It's going to make him a lot more money than previously assumed with his next deal.

- Will he take a pay cut if necessary to stay in a great situation?
- Will he chase A LOT of money elsewhere?

And most importantly... will he regress almost immediately after signing a max contract like he did in Minnesota or will he show a sustained level of consistency and effort?

We can assume Wiggins has turned a corner after being with championship players and organization. But we'll know for certain soon enough.

Wiggins next contract is going to be so interesting in general. Literally after round 1 of the playoffs there were articles be written about Wiggins was going to be a salary dump this offseason so the warriors could pay Poole and not be screwed by the lux tax as much.

Wiggins goes on to have a fantastic playoffs, having just as many double digit rebound games in the finals as he did in his whole Timberwolves career. I would of said before the playoffs Wiggins was a 20 million a year player, now does Wiggins get the max??? It will be interesting.

Really funny clip of Poole and Wiggins in the locker room after the game both yelling "we both getting the bag"

I have to believe after the way Wiggins showed up in the playoffs that the Warriors have put Wiggins in their long term plans and will pay him whatever is needed to keep him. I'm less sure that the Warriors will want to pay Klay and Draymond as age or injuries have taken a bit of a toll on those two, however, it is probable that Klay and Dray agree to accept less money on their next deals to stay. You could add Jordan Poole to the core as well and he could potentially bolt when his contract is up if the Warriors don't pay him well. Interesting. Though it may all become moot if Lacob is willing to endure luxury tax hell as long as Curry is playing at an elite level.

In general I agree with you but for the 23-24 season the warriors have 6 guys guys under contract in Curry, Klay, Green, wiseman, moody and kuminga and just those 6 guys are only 11 million away from the tax line. Add all their cap holds they are 80 million over the tax line and Poole cap hold is only 11 million (so that will number will be higher he signs) and that number isn't including resigning looney. They are going to get super expensive. I know they are cool going into the tax but they are going massively into the tax keeping this core together

I think you are right about the 2023-24 season being absolute hell, but it may abate in 2024 as Klay and Draymond's contracts expire and they both could sign team friendly deals to keep their championship core together a bit longer. By 2023-2024, Looney probably won't be starting at center as there are still hopes that Wiseman can be the long term answer there and they may hedge their bets by taking a big in the draft (Koloko, Kessler) or sign a big for the minimum who wants to chase a ring, and so I don't expect Looney to be resigned unless he wants to return on a minimum deal.

The Warriors are trying to win a championship and while Wiseman in theory might be able to be healthy and worthwhile my guess is GS will value Loney who played even better in the postseason than he did in the regular season more highly than a vet min deal. He is coming of a deal paying him 5 million a year. How much will they be willing to pay him? Idk but let's say they could resign him for 5-6 million per that's w contract that's likely moveable if they decide he is not needed anymore. The question now is whether some team decides Looney is actually worth a decent chunk of money and if Looney wants to leave. Something small to consider is I'm pretty sure players make additional money each game they play in the playoffs. The Warriors seem primed to play deep into the playoffs for the next year or longer.

Bottom line right at this moment the Warriors are in a good place and they even have young talent they didn't utilize much in the playoffs for a championship run.
