Grade our trade deadline moves

Post by TRKO [enjin:12664595] »

I can't say I'm too happy with the moves we have made or didn't make. It started off decent with the Mo Williams trade. Getting something for him was a plus. Who knows what that something is. The Payne deal was a head scratcher. Trading a first round pick for someone who has done next to nothing in the league is odd. Then trading Young for an old guy. I understand the sentimental value of KG. I would have been in favor of signing him next offseason. We wasted a first round pick on Young. That's upsetting. I don't understand not trading Martin. There was interest. Maybe there wasn't a good offer on the table. I don't see us competing in the west next year. I wish we would have sold and built for the future. I'm not sure what Flip was doing.

Shitty. The big shitty actually. As I posed in the other thread, we've given away Brewer, Young and a 1st for practically nothing.

I don't like it. Talks of kg getting a 2 yr extension after this season. Kg is not going to take the minimum and I dont see flip making him a end of bench or just a bench guy. Why spend cap and roster space and a starting spot next two season for him? I dont like the payne deal as well. Flip killed it in the off season for getting wiggins for love. Then he trades 2 first for kg and payne and looks to extend kg for 2 more season to be the starting pf and take up cap and roster space.

I was fine with the Mo trade
I am fine with the KG trade
The Payne trade sucked and the deals at the deadline proved it

As for an extension. I am completely fine with it. I actually think him being here for training camp next year is the key to this and the team knowing he is not here for 30 games. If we are over the cap I don't care what we pay him. I would pay him 24M over 2 years. Second year would be a team option with a 1M buyout by the end of July 2016. That would make KG an awesome trade chip next season through the draft.

I know the salary cap is going to sky rocket after this next season, but why do we need to give KG 12 million a year?! Dude has made more money than any American professional athlete ever, is about to become a minority owner, you would THINK Flip talks him into taking slightly above peanuts to help the cap flexibility. It's not like he's going anywhere...he just waived a no-trade clause to come back to a lottery team.

My god. I hope that's a typo.

Yeah, if he signs an extension, it will be for peanuts because he's going to have a stake in the franchise at some point. He will mostly be a player/coach, with the emphasis on coach.

bleed,

With all due respect. What you are suggesting, 2yr 24m extension for kg with 1m buyout in year 2 that will make him a trade chip could get us into big trouble! Not only cap wise (12m for kg!) but EVERYONE knows kg will be part owner soon and if he ever decides to trade himself to better the team that he is or will be owning that would result in legal and ethical issues that will warrant us punishment/suspension if we ever tried it or just further makes us a laughing stock of the league for even thinking about it! come on now..

I'd like to see Payne play before I call it a bad trade.
Thad was here to compliment Pek, Ricky and Kmart, all went down. Thad exposed as a complimentary tweener - but that's all he was supposed to be. I'll bet the thinking was Miami would be good this year and Thad in our lineup would help us more than a low first round pick in the next draft.
In hindsite, it will be a mid first round pick we gave up. Looks bad now, but hindsite is perfect
