Gary Neal
Likelihood of a buyout: 75 percent
Teams interested: "4-5 playoff teams," including the Hawks and Wizards
The offensive sparkplug is still looking for the right situation after spending the first three years of his career in San Antonio. Neal struggled immensely in the Charlotte offense this season, but with the Hornet's myriad issues, it's likely teams will look past that and see the player who knocked down big shots for the Spurs and is a 38 percent career 3-point shooter.
Kevin Martin
Likelihood of a buyout: 0 percent
Martin won't be bought out in part because Flip Saunders "loves him," according to USA Today Sports. While his presence creates a small problem with minutes distribution (mainly with Andrew Wiggins), it's not enough to get rid of a productive player who is having a fantastic season in his role off the bench.
I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on:
Thomas Robinson
Likelihood of a buyout: 100 percent
Being traded halfway through a promising rookie year has set a precedent for Robinson, who is looking for his fourth team before he turns 24 in March. Robinson earned a situational role in Portland this season, playing 30 games as a plus defender while shooting 52 percent from the floor. With his next contract this season, Robinson is reportedly looking for an expanded role and maybe some stability.
Buyouts
Re: Buyouts
Good thing Flip doesn't believe in buyouts. I don't mind teams trading for players with the intention of buying them out, but I'm sick of players pushing for them and wanting basically their full salary. Look at the Larry Sanders. What a fucking joke. If a player doesn't like their situation they need to agree to a much lower buyout or piss off.
EDIT: And off the court problems should greatly reduce buyout figures.

Do they ever publish the buyout amounts? I would be curious what it is for most players. I wouldn't pay over half the amount they are owe'd because they are going for a check somewhere else. If the player and agent don't like it they can stay home and have fun trying to get a contract next year when the league sees them as more of headache then they are worth.

Re: Buyouts
Josh Smith got the full amount.
And more money from Houston.
And the chance to play for a title.
He definitely learned his lesson...

Smith wasn't technically bought out. He was technically cut under the stretch provision which still requires paying out the full contract, but you get to spread it out over more years so you have a smaller cap hit. They could have agreed to a buy out, but why would he leave any of his max deal on the table? He had no incentive to agree to a buyout. They cut him.

I believe it's usually a lot, like 75-100% b/c the players have that power in the CBA.
They should just make it where the new contract is subtracted by the previous one and what is left over is paid by the former team. Either way buyouts in the NBA annoy me b/c contracts are 100% guaranteed.
Or only guarantee contracts at 75% so the best case scenario for a player is a 75% buyout instead of 100%. Then maybe we'd see more 50% buyouts.
Re: Buyouts
Sanders buyout hasn't happened yet but it sounds like he will be leaving a pretty good chunk of money on the table maybe only half of what he is due. We will see. Hopefully he gets his life straightened out that's a bigger concern for him than anything at this point.
