This trade was money for the Twins. Minnesota has three superior SS prospects in Royce Lewis, Wander Javier, and of course Nick Gordon -- who might end up at 2B after all. We dealt Jermaine Palacios, who isn't even a top-20 prospect in the organization by almost every respected baseball platform, for a legitimate mid-rotation starter who has two years of team control left and has consistently performed. We'll gladly take that, especially considering we open the season without Santana (finger injury).

Santana, Berrios, Odorizzi, Gibson, Mejia rotation when everyone's healthy. Maybe Sanchez bounces back and finds himself in the five-hole. And we know Gonsalves is just waiting to become the next Cliff Lee. It's only a matter of time before he's striking out MLB hitters.

What I started thinking about when reading your post was how much the Twins have spent this offseason. It's not a whole lot and they improved the bullpen and now added a decent starter. Even if he doesn't turn out to be good it's still a pretty good move. So let's say we get halfway into the season and the Twins need to add another arm. Guess what they have room in the payroll and didn't give up any prospects. They could go out and get some guys via trade. I don't know if they will but they can.

Also i read an article earlier today written by a fan that brought up a good point. The Twins may need a guy like Sanchez this year at least to start the season till some guys are ready. He might be a bridge till Santana get back or maybe Hughes or May or some young guy. I keep hearing that the Twins don't want to bring up any of their top minor league starters till they are ready to stay up and they need some more time. Sanchez might be a guy that turns it around and be effective...or goes out there and gives them at least some innings for a while. I read another article saying the Tigers pitchers said he was a very good leader helping guys out. Maybe he can help some young guys. Regardless it's a pretty low risk move.

I was just thinking Cam bringing up Gonsalves how badly this team needs one of those big three pitchers to hit if not two of the three. I love Gonsalves and Romero I really wish we would've brought them up for a cup of tea last year but I understand why they didn't.

The other interesting thing will be in July if the Twins are still in it. As cam said we have a log jam at SS. I could see Royce Lewis being ready next year. What do we do with Polanco? Does Gordon move to 2nd and we move on from Dozier in his FA year, So many possibilities.

My big prediction for this year is that Brent Rooker will be the DH for this team by then end of August. He's older guy (24) finished at high A ball I could see him starting Double A ball this season and even skipping Triple A. The guy can absolutely smash, Ive seen him hit bp multiple times he's absolute treat to watch.

JT Chargois was claimed by the Dodgers. Is another move coming? The Twins have let loose or lost some relief guys that seem to have had talent this offseason. Is it a big deal? I don't know. Id be interested in what Jester has to say.

I just read Nik Turley (wasn't that disappointed was gone) was suspended for 80 games for PEDs after the Pirates picked him up.

Twins sign Logan Morrison to a 6.5 million dollar deal. We finally have a DH s much for my Rooker prediction earlier this week. Morrison hit .246/.353/.516 (130 wRC+) across 601 plate appearances last season with .270 ISO which places him towards the top in all of baseball.

Vargas chances of being a Twin this year took a big hit as well with this signing. I don't mind too much though. I think Vargas COULD still be worthwhile but getting a more proven player makes sense. I haven't been paying attention to what bats have been getting in terms of contract so I don't know if this looks like a good deal or not. Hopefully we get something like he was last year for the rays then obviously it's a great deal. It sounds like from what I read he is plenty solid as a defensive 1b. Odorizzi talked him up big time in one article I read.

Wow, no mention of it here so I guess I'll be the first. The Twins signed Lance Lynn to a one-year, $12M deal today after he recently turned down a two-year, $20M deal from Minnesota. I would have loved to get him for two years, but you have to be pretty happy with this signing as well as the Twins off-season overall. They nailed it. Fair and bargain deals everywhere you look. Even if you ignore the low-risk, medium reward signings of Anibal Sanchez and Michael Pineda -- which I believe will turn out well for Minnesota -- they completely revamped their starting rotation with the additions of Lynn and Jake Odorizzi, boosted the back end of their bullpen with Addison Reed and Fernando Rodney, and added a legitimate thumper in the middle of their lineup with Logan Morrison. On paper, at least, this team is much-improved from last year and should be in the mix for the top spot in the AL Central while having a strong grip on a playoff spot.

The Twins will go with a four-man rotation of Berrios, Lynn, Odorizzi, and Gibson to start the campaign while Santana is coming back from his injury. When healthy, that five-man rotation is more than capable of winning in the post-season, in my opinion. And we know the lineup can score runs with the best of them. Should be a fun 2018 season.
