LaVine loaded up the pump and loaded up the uzis for that one.
Seriously though, was the first dunk contest in a long time I've enjoyed. And not because of the Wolves having a contestant (but that certainly didn't hurt), but because between the first two LaVine dunks and Oladipo's first dunk were truly impressive, and we didn't have to watch 50 missed dunks to see those.
With that said, I still think he's a shooting guard. I actually like the comparison the commentator made last night in suggesting he could be similar to Sprewell, but maybe more athletic and never as thick. That would be a nice route to see LaVine take I think.

I thought Reggie or Webber compared Wiggins to Sprewell. I'm not a fan of that comparison.

Oh, maybe you're right. I don't see that comparison either...which also might make more sense since Sprewell was more of a small forward which clearly is more of Wiggins position. (although I'll admit, I think Wiggins is currently better at SG)
With that said, I still think that LaVine could become a good outside shooter and good slasher like Sprewell was from the wing because of LaVine's athleticism, length, and shooting stroke. He needs to gain some muscle and he'll never be a SF, but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced he just needs to learn to play off the ball off of Rubio's strengths. It all really comes down to LaVine not trying to do too much, gaining muscle, improving decision making (shot selection included), and just slowing the game down mentally. If he can do that stuff, then I think he could become very good. I'm still on the fence as to whether I think he'll get there because he shows flashes of brilliance and follows it with a dunce moment. If he was 24 I'd be worried, but he's 19, so we will just have to wait and see.

LaVine is a very special dunker. He makes the amazing look easy and routine. And you knew he probably had an extra gear that he didn't even have to bring out and still won easily.
That being said...
It was the first dunk contest I've watched in many years. I was shocked at how little energy the entire arena had. The format seems to promote a lifeless arena. The place was excited after LaVine's dunks. But it was so fleeting. There wasn't an aura of excitement that kept building.
Maybe it was the nostalgia as a kid when there seemed to be a buzz during the entire competition... waiting for something awesome to happen. In any event, I'll probably go back to skipping it.
And then checking on youtube links of LaVine's incredible dunks the next day.

I think it is because everyone else sucked, many missed dunked kills the energy

Same with me Abe. I have not watched one in years and never got that much out of them to begin with. There is only so much more a player can do that hasn't already been done. LaVine made this one worth watching and perhaps others will come along and do the same. But other than him, no one really did anything that was impressive to these jaded eyes and apparently the crowd felt the same.
