Well said kahns. Our draft experts on this board seem to know exactly how rookies will perform now and in the future.

For people who think Thad and/or K-mart are going to be traded before the deadline (I'm not one of them)....what exactly do you think Flip gets in return and from who? The idea that Thad can opt out is an argument TO trade him, but for other team's the possibility that he will pick up that option for the final year before the new salary cap comes into play is a reason why other teams WON'T trade for him. It's going to take a REALLY stupid team to give up an asset for Thad when he could hurt their cap space for next season.

Im with Kahns on this.....and feel he has all the size, athleticism, and IQ to be a really good player. His negatives were needs to add size (muscle) and durability. Volans....you say loading up at one position? What true talent, Keeper foundation talent do we have at any position none the less PF? Rubio, Wiggins, and Dieng is it for me. If and only IF Paynes does become our "Robert Horry" type player....this team could be unbelievably good with a healthy Rubio, a Back down Shabazz and a Wiggins causing havoc. I like it....not counting on it, but we gave up his value from 2017 to 2020.

I think Martin is more likely to get moved than Thad. Kmart is the type of player contending teams covet. I would move him for a late first round pick, and I think that will happen. He's at the back end of his career, thus holding much more value to a contender than to us.

why does it cost us a premium to get marginal players? A first for a backup PF? I like Payne, don't get me wrong, but between Payne and Bjelica (nevermind Young and Bennett), this better not mean we won't take a PF if there's one available with our pick

I just don't see a true contender out there that is willing to take on another potential 2 years and $14+ million of Martin's contract. Do contending teams covet Martin's skills? 100% yes. Do teams covet that type of salary? 100% no.

Cool - I think your "desires" are clouding your judgement. Thad is MUCH more likely to be traded.

Brewer privately requested a trade, and agreed to waive his player option next year to get somewhere better. It seems obvious that Mo was well aware Flip was trying to get him somewhere better. Thad is in the same boat as Brewer. I suspect he will welcome a trade. Acquiring Payne makes trading Thad much more feasible.

I don't see how a non-lottery pick is a premium for a guy who was the 15th pick this year. Also, declaring Payne a marginal player with 3 total games under his belt is ridiculous. A premium is the 6th overall pick in Noel for Holiday.

Picks typically outside the lottery are typically worth more then the players you draft. I would have thought someone like T Jones or Vonlesh would be available for this type of pick. We gave up a first for a player that didn't even start all of his D-League games and was beaten out by a second rounder that plays the same position from the year before. Seems like a premium.

On another note. I wish Bud would ask to be traded and agree to opt out.

I dont like this trade. I think its fair to say after seeing what Payne can bring to the table in half a season of practices the Hawks are well aware what type of player they are giving up. While we trade first rounders away to get rid of guys like Johnson, we trade for a guy who hasnt been able to get off the bench for a pick that could likely fall around the same spot he was drafted. Im not a fan, but will hope for the best.
