But Flip has been quietly maneuvering next year's salaries so they could be players in the FA market. Trading Brewer, who had a 5 mil option next year, and taking back a much smaller deal for next year (Daniels). But then he dumped Daniels, too, by making him part of the Mo Williams trade.

The cap was 63 mil this year. I saw a projection for 66 mil next year, with the cap ballooning in following years because of the new TV deal. My ROUGH math says the Wolves should be somewhere around 53 mil next year, not including the lottery pick.

Moving Thad puts the Wolves in position to move under the cap if they so choose...

Does your projection include the 4-5 million a top 5 pick makes plus the 500K-1 Million raise all our young guys get because of their rookie deals? It adds up quick and while we would have some cap space if Thad left, the ability to add a truly impactful player would only be there if we could dump Bud and probably Martin to be on the safe side. The way I look at it at this point is we need another star, so we should draft and use our cap space to reflect that need. There are always role players to be had. Who knows, maybe Thad opts in hoping he can have a better year next year to earn a bigger deal than he could get this offseason coming off a down year. Then at least Thad and Bud would come off the books and Martin could be dealt as an expiring by then to get ready for a big offseason. **Cough** Durant **Cough**. Just kidding, but if he hits the market it would give us a chance to go after someone else first like the Amare NY situation and possibly land them before a big market takes their eyes off Durant.

That's pretty much how I was seeing it but my main point remains you lock up what I project to be 7.5M a year in Thad and it's not about what you miss out in FA this year its every year that you sign him for.

What kind of asset do you guys think it takes to move an expiring Bud?

If only Bud were expiring...

The best we could hope for is to get an expiring deal in return. Doogie hinted to keep an eye on Portland and New Orleans.

Wishful thinking, guys. Budinger's our problem and nobody's going to take him.

Budinger is one of the worst contracts in the league only because there was no point in offering it to him. He was coming off a season ending injury. No way does that merit a 4 million dollar raise. I completely blame Adelman for that one.

How much credit does Flip deserve for the defense the team is playing?

I am talking about Budinger next year once he is expiring. What does it take to move him? My guess is not a ton.
