I'm all for keeping Thad on this team going forward, based on him resigning for a reasonable price.

However I'd have him as my first big off the bench. I'd like to see Flip experiment by starting Dieng or Payne at PF and have Young come in and play the 4 and the 3. I'd still like to see him get 28 - 30 minutes a game though. I believe Thad could flourish in this role and really exploit opposition 2nd units.

Flip has done a good job as shown by the amount of youngsters we had playing in the rising star game. I think his only real big flaw is trading two firsts to try to find the answer at PF. I'm not sure he has found that guy. Thad is a nice player, but you need your PF to get a minimum of 7 rebounds per game. I think Thad may be better off coming off the bench as a tweener.

Agree his best role is off the bench, as his best years in Philly were in that role. I've always been a proponent of giving Gorgui a chance at PF, not because I think he's ideal either, but I thought it would be a good way to start games since teams tend to start big, then go smaller when they go to their bench. Flip played with this a bit and it seemed to work OK, but then he went away from it for whatever reason.

The "reason" is because he is obligated to start the seasoned veterans, Martin and Thad. Or that's my assumption. Of course, there is also the lack of depth at C, but Payne helps fill some of that!

I really do believe Thad or Martin will not be with us for our next game on Friday!

Good point. He did it before Martin was back and he had Thad starting at the 3 and Wiggins at the 2.

I just hope we get something good in return if we trade either of these guys. I still think Flip wants Martin to stick around because he spaces the floor and helps keep us in games when no one else can get the ball in the hoop. We'll see what happens.

Flip already flat out said Martin won't be traded. Clearly he's not being offered anything of value and Martin is the one knock down lights out shooter we have on this team. If you want to be a great team, you need a guy like that on board...aka a Mike Miller, a Kyle Korver, a Ray Allen, etc. Granted, the Wolves aren't a great team, and by the time they are, Martin probably won't be all that good anymore (if he's even still in this league), but if Flip's trading the guy, it's not going to be for a 2nd round pick. I'm pretty sure Flip values Martin beyond his shooting prowess, as he is a great guy for guys like Wiggins to learn from in terms of gaining veteran savvy to raise his game.

Oh, but I could totally see Thad being traded.

We've been over this quite a bit, but I still don't think Flip is resigned to keeping Martin. I agree with most everything that guys say in favor of Martin on here. He's a floor spacer. He's a scorer that we need. I don't agree that he is much of a leader or mentor. But I can see what everybody else sees.

The problem is his trade value is only going to go down from here. He misses a lot of games, and I don't see that improving as he ages. And his age doesn't match up well with our team projection path. If Flip can get something decent for him I would be celebrating. Believe it or not, I would actually rather hold on to Thad.

Cool, let's face it... He won't ever have great trade value (Martin). The team needs veterans to stabilize the team (we've already got a ridiculously young set of upside players, and adding a top 5 pick this year will only increase that). Martin, Rubio, and Pekovic represent those stabilizing veterans. I agree Martin's value won't be getting higher, but getting a 2nd (let's face it, that's what we're likely to end up with) is pretty pointless at this point. I think he brings more by staying on this team than by getting us another young player.

We really don't have any replacement for Martin. The only upside with trading Martin is that Wiggins likely is forced to take more assertion on scoring again.

But mostly, the reason I don't think Flip will trade Martin this year is because he said he won't. You can like Flip, or hate Flip, but Kahn, Flip is pretty trustworthy when he says something. He's very selective in his words...so if there's a chance of something happening, he will skirt the issue (see any interview with Dan Barrairo on KFAN as evidence) rather than just say it won't happen.

Hockey, I've heard Flip say he isn't trading Martin also, but I interpret this as Flip knowing it's not likely anyone is going to offer him something more valuable than Martin is to us. But if some team surprised him and offered something for Kevin that he couldn't refuse, I'm certain Flip would take it. I like Flip also and think he's a straight shooter. But if I had a choice of our PBO being trustworthy or really smart, I'd take really smart every time. And I tend to think Flip is pretty smart. If an Eastern Conference marginal playoff team offered an unprotected first for Martin, Flip has to jump at it. Not going to happen though.
