Mike Malone had the Kings playing good ball early in the year. Started the season 11-13 before getting fired. Was winning with better defense I believe. Good eye, kek.

PS: Nik Stauskas is available according to NBA rumors surrounding the Kings. Needing frontcourt help. Obviously we're thin there ourselves, but I still like him as a player and would very much welcome a trade to get him.

That record should come with an asterisk. Cousins missed nearly 10 of those games. The splits early in the season with Cousins on/off the floor were very telling. It sure seemed like the franchise player was thriving and that a coach was finally "reaching" him. So, they fire the coach.

Since then, I've seen stories and on-air commentary ripping Cousins for reverting to spotty effort and inconsistencies as the team has gone 5 - 9 with Corbin at the helm.

[Note: The Kings and Cavs seem to have truly terrible ownership/management. I know not everybody is happy with what Taylor has done through the years... or Flip currently... but it could probably be worse.]

I think most important is when they had Cousins and Malone, they were a very respectable defense this year. I'd certainly welcome his expertise if it could help on that end.

I would welcome malone as a consultant or assistant coach that focus on d. He was a defensive coordinator assistant before and we badly needs coaching on d.

Im not high on yhe current crop of assistants we have except for ryan saunders but he is too young at the moment. Malons should help.

this seems like a strange move - has this been done before in recent times?

How absurd would it be for Flip to fire himself 1/2 way through the season (now that we are clearly done for the year) and put in the coach he wants now as opposed to waiting till the off season. Frankly, I would rather the future coach take over now than waste more time implementing Flips special "defense" and expanded "offense"

Is carl landry injured or not? If he is healthy i would take him and nik for thad and daniels/gr3.

Malone could be valuable as an assistant. I don't really perceive him as anything special as a head coach, though I'd prefer a lot of things over Flip's version of it right now.

I'd be all for getting Landry and dumping Thad. He doesn't log many minutes on the Kings, only around 20, but his offensive efficiency is higher and he's a better rebounder. His defense isn't anything special because he's undersized, but he can't possibly be any worse. We would be taking on an additional year of salary, but that third year won't amount to much with the TV money coming in and us being able to decline Bennett's option if he never pans out and is still on the team.

It's pretty common for fired HC's to get thrown a bone if they are willing to take the demotion. As for Malone taking over I don't see that happening. His overall track record in Sac town wasn't exactly stellar even if it showed promise at the beginning of this season.
