Gordon Hayward

Post by worldK »

Reportedly wants out of Boston and may opt out of his 34.1m deal if given assurance of a long term deal.
Would you be interested? I see him being like Gallo. Hurt in his prime, miss about 2 years. But slowly regain some of his game and is a contributor on a winning team. Still is an injury risk but he knows how to play and is a big sf that the team would need.

We have no cap space but could move JJ, Spellman and evans to create some room. GS has the iggy trade exception that cant be combine with another contract in a trade and is bound to expire soon. JJ fit in nicely to their team and add an expiring for them for future trades. Spellman and evans have shorter contracts that are easier moved. il offer a 3/60m deal(similar dollars to what Gallo got from the clippers).

Hayward gives us a legit 3rd option who can run the offense and has size as the starting 3. Have culver and okogie play the 2 and draft Wiseman at #1.

I have no interest for what he'll likely want contractually nor do I see a realistic path for the Wolves to obtain the necessary cap space to sign him.

I've thought about him as a possible fit the last few months but I agree with wha you said here. He is 30 now and a nice enough player but yeah I don't see it believe worth it for what he will ask. If he was a couple years younger that would make me a little more interested. I think Gordon is gonna have a hard time finding the right team with money on the market with enough cash to give him a deal but who knows I guess.

I like Hayward. What would he settle for though?

I can't see him settling for anything less than $20M... or the Wolves giving him more than $20M for many years.

5 years for $85M? Maybe on a contract that goes down each year?

Assuming we can move JJ and other contracts, I would offer no more than 3 years/50 mil.

The issue is JJ is an asset as an expiring in a different trade. The only teams that want to absorb money will want an additional asset included.

Hard to see it.

Why offer anything like that?

Hayward isn't opting out of $34M... to get the following two years for less than the MLE...

I'm not saying he would take it. It is just what I would offer. I do not have an interest in locking Hayward up for 5 years.

Moving the necessary contracts to other teams will cost us assets. Boston is too deep, and has no need for a plethora of our players in a S/T.

They have Kemba, Smart, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Langford, Semi, Wanamaker in the guard to wing spots. They need a modern center to compete over there. Which we have none to offer.

I'm not willing to renounce the rights of Beasley and Hernangomez, deal off JJ +, for a chance at Hayward.

Hayward doesn't need money at this point in his career. I see him spending the next few years after his deal is up trying to play for contenders regardless of the contract. Someone good will throw the MLE at him unless he continues to play inconsistently and poorly in which case we shouldn't go after him either.

I disagree with you there. Some of the rumors are is he wants to opt out because he is sick of being the 3rd or 4th option on the Celtics and he is able to go to another team make good money and be a more focal point of the offense. I can't see him wanting out because he is isn't featured enough to wanting to take MLE money to ring chase. If he wanted to do that he would stay with his college coach and continue to play with the Celtics.
