Hawks move down from 6 to 13 and 17
Cavs trade 5 and Love for 10, Rubio and Oubre
Wolves trade 1 and 17 for 5 and 6
Pels trade Holiday and 13 for 1
Suns trade 10 Rubio and Oubre for Holiday and Love

Probably contingent on if Holiday likes Phx. If nothing else a fun talker. This could net 2 of Haliburton, Okongwu, or Toppin.

How strange would it be to have pick 5 and 6 again? With Rubio involved no less?

This is what I'd call "getting too cute" from an NBA executive standpoint. Better off taking James Wiseman at one and a perimeter player at 17.

Maybe. All depends on who the Wolves have targeted in specific tiers. If they don't think Wiseman at #1 has much more value than who they think they can get at #5 (for better or worse)... but that #6 holds a lot more value in their opinion than #17... I can see such a move.

If the Wolves are seriously considering this deal, it tells us our front office doesn't view any of the consensus top three prospects as significantly better than the prospects they expect to be available at #5 - unless this deal is part of another deal for an established star from a team that would rather have ##5 and 6 than ##1 and 17.

As I think about it, I tend to agree with Cam that this deal is "getting too cute," but that's because I also agre with Cam that Wiseman is a significant cut above any of the other prospects except maybe Okongwu and I think Okongwu will be off the board by #5. I also agree with Abe that the deal is understandable if the Wolves are convinced they won't be passing on a significantly better player at #5 than the guy they'll get at #1.

My concern with the deal is two fold. First, from a purely strategic standpoint, the Wolves would be giving up control of the draft board because this move would a pre-draft deal. Second, it would be a gamble because there is no way the Wolves front office can know for sure who will be available at ##5 and 6. It's the same mistake Rosas made in last year's draft. As decision as important as this one shouldn't be left to chance. I can see where it might make sense if the Wolves have multiple prospects rated equally and, therefore, are certain at least one of them will be available at #5.

I think the Wolves may also need to get some other additional asset (maybe even just a good 2nd round pick) for this deal to make sense for them because of what you laid out. I think there are plenty of scenarios where they can get good players at 5 and 6 but at this point I'd hate to not have one of them be Halliburton to be honest. Maybe Someone drops that's unexpected though.

I agree, Monster. I'd like to see another asset coming to the Wolves AND I'd really want Haliburton to be one of the two guys we draft. Another thing I like about Haliburton is what I see as his high floor. I might be inclined to pick Patrick Williams with one of those two picks if I could get Haliburton with the other. I see Williams as having a really high upside, but I conceded he's more of a long shot than some others, including Wiseman. Drafting Haliburton along with Williams would give me some comfort that we can at least count on one of the two being a valuable rotation player.

5-17 picks are close to interchangeable as far as talent goes. So 1 and 17 are far more valuable than 5 and 6 in my eyes.
