Like ESPN did a segment on the wolves yesterday and the lady ended the segment if the Wolves can figure out their defense they will be good because their offense has been great this year. (What is so backwards on what actually is happening).

Same thing with Dlo same old narrative. Now I am concerned he is having a fantastic year this year and that coinsideds with Dlo eligible for an extension this offseason. Meaning by far his best 2 years as a pro have come when he can make a ton of money and has been average at best in other years. But the narrative of Dlo being bad this year and he needs to go is incorrect in the lense of this season.

Dlo was been good this??? You can't really believe that.

From what I've seen, as goes DLO so goes the Wolves. He isn't consistent by any means but neither is Ant. But they're good enough most of the time to make this team a 40 something win team. Which is what most of you guys considered a successful season.

Yes I believe dlo has been good to great this year.

93rd percentile in net rating
57th percentile in offensive rating
97th percentile in defensive rating
98th percentile in on/off numbers. (24.4 pts per 100 possessions better with dlo on the court than off)
Net and defensive numbers hold up with Kat on the bench and his already great defensive numbers get better with Kat sitting (proving Kat is not carrying Dlo. This has been a knock on Rubio career, when Rubio is not with the teams best player is net/ortg/drtg have massively suffered.)
#10 of all nba players in +/-
#1 in the NBA in pts in the clutch
#4 in the NBA in pts per game in the clutch (behind Joel Embiid, LBJ and Ja Morant)
#7 out of 21 players in EFG% with at least 20 clutch shots
To go along with him averaging 19/4/6
Wolves are 11-8 when Dlo plays and finishes a game. 0-3 when he missed a game or left due to injury.

Is there serious questions about dlo going forward? Yes! Has he in my opinion been fantastic in the lense of this wolves season. In my honest opinion, yes!

It's been a werid dlo season because he is shooting poorly and was a key reason why the Wolves lost tonight but he has been a massive plus for the Wolves and his shots have not fallen yet at a consistent bases

Does Simmons know as much about the Wolves as most of us... considering he's a national guy living in LA who's a Celtics fan first... and he talks about all 30 teams... and he follows and discusses other sports too... and talks about gambling... and has a movie podcast where he is constantly discussing movies he just watched... all while raising a family and running a huge corporation...?

Guys like Zach Lowe probably watch a ton of hoops. But I think he freely admits to not knowing much about other cultural and entertainment things. But all-around "pundits" like Simmons or Cowherd or Patrick or whoever just have to have the guise that they're knowledgeable. They have to know just enough to make a take and be right about it every once in awhile... or have somebody on their staff to find it for them.

It's business.

[Note: But I understand the frustration because I don't like dumb, uninformed takes either. And that's how narratives start.]

kekgeek1 wrote:Also if you listen to all of the basketball segments on this episode of Simmons podcast. Simmons talks about the warriors and suns game and says it sucks they won't play again for a couple of months. (What if factually incorrect they play on Friday again). Then spends 10 minutes on fake Warriors Miles Turner trades, where there is no legs to this at all, he just liked the idea that KOC brought up on Monday. Now is running multiple segments on a hypothetical trade. Where he wants the thunder to trade 2 unprotected picks, and favors to the Pacers. Thunder get Wiseman and warriors get Turner (tweeted this after the pod).

My favorite segment was this podcast was he said he is predicting someone for ESPN well right a story saying 'are we sure lebron won't finish his career in Cleveland" in the next 3 weeks. Then spends the next 10 minutes discussing this hypothetical article that he made up in his head. It's really amazing.

I listen to the Simmons podcast all 3 times a week. Still think he is super entertaining but man has he lost a step or 10 when it comes to actual knowledge.

Me and my buddy wonder if Simmons was always this bad with his takes or do we have a lot more options now in the NBA podcast world that we realize how little Simmons actually knows.

Yes, I think the answer is both. He was probably always this bad, but has been "found out" so to speak by more diehard fans like you and your buddy (and most of this board) because we now have direct access to so much more information and data. We can literally watch every game AND deep dive into a massive array of stats and information.

That doesn't mean his takes aren't interesting, as I found his commentary on Ant to be quite satisfying. But that might have been the second time I have read or listened to a take of his in the last 10 years. Never been a big fan.
