Honestly, this is to be expected and we've seen that kind of report before with other organizations, but I enjoyed seeing this today. It doesn't always work out that way where the interim label comes off, but I'm rooting for Sachin Gupta. I think he's legit.

I'm willing to be patient and see if this guy can be effective, but frankly I just don't know much about him. He's obviously smart...engineering and computer science degree from MIT and MBA from Stanford. I just don't know if those things will translate to success in the NBA. We'll have to see. My guess is this is merely an interim step to keep the executive office filled during this critical time, but that Lore/Arod will eventually put their stamp on their team by choosing their own POBO, and I'm guessing fluency in Java may not be at the top of their criteria list. Being able to complete an effective deal for Simmons would help his chances of getting rid of that interim label.

You should read up on him. Gupta's got some serious history that suggests he knows what he's doing in NBA front offices -- specifically his time in Houston leading up to the acquisition of James Harden, and his time in Philadelphia during The Process. Gupta's fingerprints are all over those franchises. I think you have him labeled in your mind as just a software engineer or the typical computer nerd, but he's been much more involved in basketball operations than that to this point in his career.

Well, he did create ESPN's Trade Machine, so that has got to count for something! :)

Ha, I just read that...I'm now convinced!

Lip put together a pretty good list of POBO's who have never played the game. I would say though that David Griffin is an example of why I'm concerned about POBO's like David Kahn who think they are "the smartest guy in the room" but can't really understand the mind of an NBA player. Remember what Griffin handed out to his players in the bubble? Copies of The Alchemist...the actual book, not the comic book version. Did he really think any of the players were going to read it, much less understand it?

FWIW I read "The Alchemist" a few years ago. Phil Jackson handed out various books to his players I don't think it's a silly idea in general.

Anyway back to David Griffin here is a recent about him.

Yep- open mind, open mind...I agree. I'm not necessarily discounting the "nerd" factor...could be helpful. I;m kind of an analytical guy myself. Just saying his non-athlete background sounds a little too much like Kahn and Rosas. If he makes no successful moves and this team wins less than 35 games, I can guarantee I'll be clamoring for the new ownership to bring in a guy with a different profile. But if he can pull off a Dlo (or Beasley) plus picks deal for Simmons though, I may even convert to Hinduism.

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

"Minnesota ownership learned of Gersson Rosas's extramarital affair with a Timberwolves staffer through photographic evidence, sources said, when they were scene kissing at last Saturday's Minnesota United FC game at Allianz Field."

To me one of the big keys (maybe the biggest) to being a very good sports executive has to do with the people you hire and surround yourself with. If you can't hire smart capable people around you and then utilize what they bring to the table you will fail no matter how much of basketball (or baseball or whatever sport) genius you are. If Gupta or whoever feels like they need someone that adds experience from playing the game at a high level they can add them to their staff.

Leaving aside the moral aspect (not to mention yet another misspelling in a published report), how stupid was it for him to have his affair out in public? Was he thinking that maybe those in attendance might think it was some other balding, Columbian guy? Just dumb to say the least, and not the guy we want making decisions for us. I don't often support Glen Taylor in his decision-making, but I think he may have gotten this one right for a change...especially combined with the reports of a toxic workplace.

The moral aspect of this is a little more complex. While I don't in any way condone marital infidelity, what percentage of NBA stars do you think cheat on their wives or girlfriends? I guess the rules are different for executives as opposed to players. I also know nothing about Rosas's marriage, or whether they are even together. I did think it was peculiar that in the weeks after he was hired there were several photos of him with his (admittedly adorable) children, but none that I saw of him with his wife. I suspect there's been trouble in paradise for some time. But even then, complete your divorce before you are comfortable making out with another woman in public. Like I said...dumb.

Thanks for posting I had seen last night something about them at this event but this says there was evidence. I'm not sure if ownership found out at that point (I think that's doubtful) but it sounds like Rosas and Bri were basically acting as a couple recently and they were reported to be together at a Twins game as well. This doesn't seem like a fling or one time thing it's something it kinda seems like they might even plan to continue long term. My guess them being publicly involved was the final straw that brought the abrupt decision.

DAMN IT!

I blame Trump. And that's only partly tongue-in-cheek. I don't care about this from a political angle. You love the guy, you hate the guy... I don't care.

But I was bothered by all the silly typos and misspellings from the very beginning. It's just such a dumb mistake and entirely below the position. He's arguably the most important man in the world. His administration had many, many people available to avoid those mistakes. Yet here we are, years later. If the most important job/organization in the world doesn't care about spelling, why should other people. It's a slippery slope.

But for some of us, spelling matters. Case in point...

I have my first job interview in many years next week. It's for a position where details matter. (In an ironic twist, it's not entirely unlike the job somebody failed at with the Wovles.) Yet the person who contacted me (presumably my boss) misspelled my name. I never even read the end of the email at first because I was so distracted by the silly, unnecessary mistake. I'm now going into the interview questioning if I even want the gig.

I also equate it to a basketball poster making a really good argument... but using an easily verifiable inaccurate stat to start the argument. I'm never getting to the meat of the story if you can't do the simplest things correctly.

Imagine working decades to finally reach the pinnacle of your profession, only to throw it and your marriage away because you couldn't keep your dick in your pants.

I guess I'm more entertained than annoyed by repeated typos and misstatements out there, Abe. I'm not sure I blame the ex-prez, but I do note the hilarious usage error in his recent lawsuit against the NYT and his niece.

"The brazenness of the defendants' actions cannot be understated"

Pssst...Donald. Didn't you mean to say overstated? Next time make sure Rudy is sober before he files a lawsuit.

Post made for grammar/spelling/usage purposes only...not politics. God knows Biden has had a few doozies too!
