Pretty good effort through three quarters. Gave the game away to start the fourth, though. On to the next one.

The fact they had a lead through 3 quarters with a good portion of the team out says a lot to me. Lots of open shots and good looks missed and we needed better defense. I hope we can add to this team via trade because I don't think we are that far off at full strength.

I was feeling pretty decent when we went into the 4th basically even with them after being down, what, like 15-17 in the first half?
Then as we fell quickly behind in what seemed just a couple minutes into the fourth quarter, I was thinking, "oh yeah, they're the Jazz and we're the Wolves."
*sigh*

We lost by 12 points to one of the three best teams in the West. We were missing our two best players and they weren't. I don't see any shame in that and we can't draw any meaningful conclusions. The good news is that Edwards looked good and Beasley had his shooting stroke. Truth is, we're not going to win many games this season when neither Towns nor DLO is on the court.
Edwards remains our most talented player, but KAT is still our best player by far and DLO our second best. It will be a year or two before Edwards will have the same impact on winning as KAT or DLO. Even Michael Jordan's Bulls didn't finish above .500 until his 4th season and Michael played three years of college ball. I'm still optimistic about McDaniels, but again we need to be patient.
Maybe we can make a deal by the trade deadline that helps the team. But I can't envision a deal that does anything that significantly moves the needle. The fate of the Wolves this season will be determined by the health of Towns and DLO. The fate of the team beyond this season will turn on the development of Edwards and McDaniels as well as the durability of KAT and DLO.

I still felt like we had no shot to win going into the 4th. Great teams can keep it close then just pull away in the 4th. We've seen it time and again.
Hopefully we will be back at full strength again next week.

Our supporting cast is just pathetic. Perhaps KAT and Edwards can do more to make others better, but the production (or lack thereof) we're getting out of Okogie, Prince, McDaniels, Beasley, and McLaughlin is just pathetic. None of these guys has a TS% even near league average.

Prince has been terrible and McLaughlin has been bad. Okogie has been OK, McDaniels is looking better and Beasley has been regaining his shooting form.
Most supporting cast members will look bad when thrust into a staring role. And I'm encouraged by what we've seen from McDaniels, Beasley and Nowell recently. I'd still like to see the Wolves strengthen their bench via trade or free agency, but it's hard to see a practical path for that to happen this season. Like Cam, I'd like to see us keep Monroe and bring in a better wing. In any event, I'm far more concerned about the durability of DLO, Towns and Beverley. I'm less concerned about Towns since he's been very durable most of his career thus far. DLO and Beverley, however, have proven to be fragile. If our starters - Towns, DLO, Edwards, Beverley, Vando and KAT - can stay healthy, the Wolves have a great shot at making the playoffs this season with McDaniels, Beasley, Nowell and Naz Reid as our main supporting cast members off the bench.

How the hell did the Jazz end up with such a
Lip, these guys have been bad in limited roles, not just starting roles. Our healthy starting lineup has the best net rating of any starting 5 in the league. Other than these last few games, none of the guys I mentioned above have been thrust into unreasonably expansive roles. They need to start making some damn shots!
