Below is a 57 second video from Twitter of Bolmoro in a recent game.

Thanks for posting, Monster. His shooting for looks good in the video. Not enough data for his stats to provide any meaningful information. He's averaging around 10 minutes per game, averaging less than 1 three-point attempt and just over two FG attempts per game. I still don't understand the pick, but maybe there's something there.

I agree Lip, hard to really discern what kind of player he'll be. My only point in highlighting him is that the little data that is available is trending in the right direction. We'll take whatever trickle of positive news we can get.

Lol. I can't disagree with you on that. :)

The team his playing on now has 2 legit NBA players on in in Mirotic and Gasol. There was video of practice where Bolmoro had the ball on the wing drove a step and threw a behind the back pass to Gasol who then splashed a 3 at the top of the key. I don't get how people aren't a little more intrigued with a legit 6'7" PG type that also has quick feet and gets after it defensively. I don't feel as confident about his ceiling or floor as much as I did with McDaniels but it sort feels a little similar. I wonder what Bolmoro would be doing if he was playing in the NCAA Tourney right now...

I think intrigued is a fair way to put it Monster, but hard to be super bullish on someone not getting a ton of minutes in an inferior league. I know that's just how it works over there.

You know you're a hard core Timberwolves fan if you're reading about Leandro Bolmaro! He probably won't amount to much, but it's fun to think about the possibilities.

Seriously though, watching his videos, what I really like about him is the on-ball defense. The dude just looks turbocharged at all times. Talk about getting into a stance and staying engaged! Super quick lateral movement with those quick short steps. Kind of reminds me of Patrick Beverley. You know how you can hit 1.5X on podcasts and it speeds up the playback and makes everybody sound a bit like a chipmunk? It looks like somebody hit 1.5X on his ass when he's defending. Nice to see.

Not sure what he'd be capable of on offense. Shooting obviously suspect (though progress is nice), and he doesn't look like he can jump very high. He seems to have figured out that by taking lots of shorter steps but super quick instead of longer strides he can still go fast and have more control turning, accelerating, and decelerating. A couple of those plays look like NBA refs might call travel on just because his legs seem to move faster than he's able to dribble the ball!

Your comment about the 1.5x speed was exactly what I was thinking watching some recent videos too. To be fair it looked a little like everyone was faster but yeah. lol

March 2nd 2021 highlights

You can't tell me your not at least a little interested in how the 6'6" to 6'7" 20.5 year old Bolmaro will develop. I think he's Satoransky like, with potential for more, I am interested for sure.

Nikola Mirotic: Check out his stats as a stretch 4 and he just turned 30, he might be worth a 1 year deal if the price is not too expensive. He makes 5.4 mil on a 4 year deal with Barcelona from what I could find so maybe he is not available or would cost too much but he's always been able to shoot.

I think if a team wants him they are gonna have to kinda blow him away with an offer and it would have to be more than a 1 year deal and probably a starting position. If I remember right he was Utah's plan A at PF and when he left for Europe they went after Bogdonovic which made some other dominos fall. So yeah I'm not sure unless something has changed how any option would compare to that possible deal in terms of money starting opportunity on a good team. He seems to just want to play in Europe and get paid a nice enough amount (could earn probably double in the NBA) to do so. I got respect for that although I personally liked watching him in the NBA.

Barca game March 23rd 2021

It's not a spectacular game but Bolmaro shows flashes, I think he needs to add strength and some sort of signature move. That can probably be said for many 20 year old ball players, he's under contract until the summer of 2023 with Barca. Going into next season he is more of an asset chip in my eyes than a NBA rotational player and therefore I don't see us buying out his contract. He will just continue to develop overseas or be traded.

I believe his buyout after this year is pretty manageable. I agree with your take we may not bring him over next year especially if we still have the glut of perimeter players currently on the roster. My guess is he would be a nice trade chip.

I watched this game. A couple things that stand out. It was interesting to see him matched up against JJ Barea.

1. Bolmoro is very comfortable passing at any time. One handed passes with either hand or 2 hands he just looks very natural and easy. I remember lots of talk about Rubio and hockey assists Bolmoro had a few of those in the first half. He can initiate offense or move the ball quickly but he definitely gravitates towards being a PG type.

2. He looks like a PG. His handle looks really good very advanced and it never really looked like someone was going to take the ball from him. This from a guy that's at least 6'5" and doesn't have short arms.

3. Physically he isn't super strong and he is more quick and fast than explosive. Still with his size he is plenty athletic and his quickness and lateral movement looks above average for his size.

4. Defense his quickness etc looks legit. He stayed with Barea which even if JJ has lost a little that's still pretty good. When Bolmoro got switched onto a big he had no problem with physically battling that guy (in terms of mentality) and with his overall length his battling often fronting was pretty effective.

Do I feel like bolomoro is some awesome prospect after watching this game? No. Did it reinforce some of what I thought about him? Yes. I feel even better about his passing abilities than before. Having said that his team won by 30 but at least he played a lot so we could see him and he came into the game as I believe one of the first subs early in the game.

I'd like to believe the Wolves have a gem or at least a solid asset in Bolmaro. But I'll be surprised if he turns out to be anything of value to the Wolves either on the court or in a trade.

Monster, I think he does have short arms. Watching film of him, he appears at times to struggle getting high enough for drunks - a combination of what's likely a pretty poor vertical and relatively short arms by NBA standards. Also, consider these comments from draft reviews of Bolmaro:

"His 178-pound frame ranks him as one of the 10 lightest players on ESPN's top 100. He's also rumored to have a six-foot-eight wingspan, which would rate as below average for someone his height."

"He looks longer than he actually is, since he only has an average wingspan (6-7) ..."

But to be fair, I don't think his arm length will make or break him as an NBA prospect. He's long enough for either guard position in the NBA. And I need to keep in mind that the one thing the Wolves front office seems to do well is identify young below-the-radar or undervalued talent - e.g., Naz Reid, JMac, Nowell and McDaniels. So I could easily be wrong about Bolmaro. Of course, I've never been wrong before. :)
