I hadn't heard about the Wolves interest in Powell. What would you think of acquiring him and what would you think the Wolves would have to give up to get him?

I commend Minnesota's front office on fishing/asking around the league on various players since its their duty to cover all bases, but Norman Powell wouldn't be a player I seriously considered trading for due to several reasons.

He's having a fine season with Toronto putting up some eye-popping numbers both in terms of volume and efficiency, but he turns 28 in two months and is almost guaranteed to be an unrestricted free agent after this season when he opts out of the final year of his deal. It's rumored that both New York and Indiana will be pursuing him heavily and I can see more veteran teams showing real interest, which will only drive up his demands in dollars and years. He's going to get more than $20-million annually and that makes me uncomfortable.

The Raptors will almost certainly require a first-round pick or a rookie scale player that has appeal plus salary to match without being a bad contract. That's a tricky fit for the Wolves because they don't have many of those. That could mean the 2024 first-round pick and/or Jaylen Nowell plus Juan Hernangomez for Powell. Or maybe the Raptors would agree to a swap for Malik Beasley.

In either case it's a trade that I wouldn't approve of. Thanks, but no thanks.

Cam - Like you, I would pass on Powell for the reasons you gave.

On the eve of the trade deadline, the Nuggets have become the favorites to pry Aaron Gordon away from the Magic, league sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Denver's offer would include guard Gary Harris, a first-round pick and either R.J. Hampton, Zeke Nnaji or Bol Bol.

Although the Nuggets seem to have the momentum, the Celtics are still "very engaged" in the process, according to Fischer. Boston's proposed deal would involve Marcus Smart and a first-rounder, and it's possible that a second-round pick and the Celtics' $28.6MM traded player exception could be added as well, with Evan Fournier also headed to Boston. The Timberwolves, Rockets and Trail Blazers all remain interested in acquiring Gordon.

I'm out on Aaron Gordon. I want nothing to do with Gersson Rosas trying to outbid Boston and Denver with what they're reportedly offering. Frankly, Gordon just isn't that good. I often used to say this when I played fantasy sports, but it rings true around trade deadlines. Sometimes the best deals you make are the ones you don't. The Wolves need to bow out of the Gordon hunt.

The Pistons will send guard Delon Wright to the Kings in exchange for guard Cory Joseph and a pair of second-round picks, tweets ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The picks in the deal are this year's selection from the Lakers and Sacramento's second-round choice in 2024.

Love this trade for Sacramento. Delon Wright is a very good glue guy with a well-rounded game. Smart addition here. He's what people think Marcus Smart is.

I agree. Gordon makes sense as a last piece to the puzzle. Not a corner piece.

Asking price for Gordon is ridiculous. If Denver or Boston make those rumoured deals then they're mad. Gary Harris alone is more valuable than Gordon. And Marcus Smart as well. Then adding additional 1st round picks. Madness.

I disagree on Harris. And he's on a pretty steady downward trajectory, too.

I dig Smart (sans flopping). But I think he's sort of the reverse Gordon. While Gordon has been pretty meh... many believe he's been misused in Orlando, bouncing between the 3 + 4 while playing with stalwart PGs like DJ Augustin. Meanwhile, Smart has been in a very favorable position where his flaws are masked some and his strengths are highlighted.

I think Boston is a pretty savvy organization despite the occasional missteps. Orlando has been anything but that during Gordon's time there. Still a very steep price to pay... but I think Gordon has more in him than we've seen.

Personally, I like him in Portland better than Denver or Boston. Let him be a poor man's Draymond Green for the little guards out there when they're trapped 40 feet away from the hoop.

They upgraded for what I saw was the Lakers 2nd rounder this year and their own 2024 2nd. They are owed a bunch of 2nd round picks so being able to add Wright who at this point (advanced stats love him) is a much better player than Joseph. The kings have a nice rotation of guards and quite frankly at least one of them can probably play SF some minutes going small. Joseph has a non guaranteed deal which could have value for Detroit at some point this offseason. Seems like a good deal for both teams and also good for Wright going to a team thats more competitive.

I'm totally out on bidding for Gordon also. One issue about him is he has missed some games too. Like Abe outlined he might be more valuable to teams that need him to just do stuff but I don't want to overpay for him.

Can those reported Gordon deals be true? I would be surprised, but if it happens, it's because the team that trades for him recognizes his defense has made him a positive on/off plus player every year of his career except one...best on Orlando this season for players with more than 700 minutes. I still hold the line at the rumored deal of Rubio, protected pick + filler, but I'm not going higher. Gordon would immediately become our starting PF and that would be an upgrade, but I might prefer to see what McDaniels could do with 30 minutes a game (I recognize Finch is playing him more at SF, but I think he has a future at PF).

I go back and forth on the Beverly deal. Yes, he's a great defender...maybe the best defensive PG in the game...but he's hurt, getting older, and averages 53 games a year. I liked the deal better when I thought Beverly was an expiring, but with another year left on his contract, my vote would be no.

If those rumored offers for Gordon are true, just imagine what the Hawks are expecting for Collins? I suspect they are waiting for the Gordon domino to fall, and then will only pull the trigger if the return is sizably higher than Gordon's.
