I'm following US men's soccer which is in the midst of qualifiers for the next World Cup. They basically have one window of play per month where they travel to be with the national team and play 2-3 games. There are a total of 14 games played over a series of multiple windows. How they do in those 14 games - most of which will have no more than 2 or 3 goals scored cumulatively - will determine if they go to Qatar or not.

Anywho, the contrast between what is at stake with each window, each game, and each goal is enormous compared to what's at stake in the NBA for each week, each game, each basket. In other words, yes, we should win this game tonight. No, it's not the end of the world if we lose and if DLO goes 0-4 from 3 with 5 turnovers it doesn't mean he'll suck the rest of the season.

That being said.....Go Wolves!

Heh, yeah, that was a tough one, but not enough to knock them out of 2nd place in their region for world cup qualifying. As long as they are in the top 3, they will qualify. They have beaten Mexico twice this year, so they have also had some impressive wins.

Not surprised. This is what Dane Moore meant when he said the Wolves have not built a serious team. Josh may do OK as the only poor shooter in the starting lineup though.

- It's fun rooting for the U.S. in a situation where they are clearly behind the rest of the Western world and South America in a major sport. That's not normally the case (on the men's side at least). But, it appears we may be starting to catch up. The US men's team is comprised mostly of young guys between 18 and 22, some of whom are making noise in top European leagues on their club teams.

When it comes to World Cup or Olympics I'll watch a little bit if I happen to be flipping channels and come across it. For me it's pretty much like baseball, it's exciting when something big is on the line, I'll if the Twins are in the playoffs (and not playing the Yankees! LOL) but cannot stay awake for a regular season game. I agree the underdog status makes WC and Olympic soccer a little more exciting, but still, no way I can sit through a full game even then.

Soccer reminds me of those few years I played football as a kid, way too much running around for so little fun in exchange! When you're big and slow you end up on the OL, blocking for and against the kids who're doing the fun stuff! LOL
