Thanks as always for these reports, its one of my favorite things on this board. I am considering going to the game on Saturday (If Zion was playing I would for sure be going). The one thing I will say I am super happy that Rosas decided to draft Edwards instead of Wiseman like many of this board wanted to happen. Could you imagine how sad we would be today if we had the hurt player in Wiseman while Ant is giving quote after quote dropping 20+ a game on the Warriors.

I think Ant will go down as many peoples top 2 player in Wolves history.

Hopefully this is the 1st of many super positive Wolves post game threads.

Yes, I was one of those people who wanted Wiseman. My bad!

Really tough to take much away from a home win against a Houston team that stripped themselves down to the studs and will likely not get out of the teens in wins this season. But a win is a win!

Before all is said and done I think Ant will be the best player on the team. KAT'S days as top dog are numbered, and I think he'll be okay with that.

It's hard to be upset with how things played out as Anthony Edwards is a rising star with the personality to match, but there might also be a parallel universe where the Wolves end up with James Wiseman and he doesn't tear his meniscus in a year where his development was also suppressed in order for Golden State to secure one of the bottom playoff spots in the Western Conference. Will Wiseman ever be the best player in his class? That's still to be determined even though he's definitely behind some of his peers, but he also looked like the sure bet in comparison because of other players and their flaws prior to the draft. To their credit, they've turned some of their flaws into strengths already. Can Wiseman do the same? Will he be afforded the chance to grow and make mistakes along the way?

Also, here's another thought. Minnesota would be one of the biggest, most athletic teams in the league with a Jaden McDaniels, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Wiseman frontcourt. We complain about how small this team is right now and for good reason. We've explored various trade ideas here to bring in another big that can relieve defensive and rebounding pressure on Towns. That hole definitely still remains. Wiseman would have filled it and potentially more. It just wasn't the direction that Minnesota's front office wanted to go. We also now know that Gersson Rosas dictated Ryan Saunders to not play traditional two-big lineups. Management just didn't have that in their vision, but I have little doubt that it could have worked with Towns and Wiseman.

I think many had concerns with Wiseman before the draft... and there still are concerns.

It's just as easy to say a player is in a great situation with a professional quality team as it is to say he's in a crappy position with a perennial bottom feeder. There are infinite examples of players thriving (or failing) in each type of situation. Bottom line -- Wiseman underperformed last season. Edwards and Ball took off in various ways as the season went on.

They simply look like better players right now. We'll see if that changes, but it's probably doubtful Wiseman makes up that much ground any time soon.

I'd also say I like the Edwards fit better with Minnesota. Even if I didn't think he was THE guy for the role at the time, it's still a league largely dominated by athletic wings. I like the Wolves building around one talented wing and one big than two talented bigs.

Still to early to be definitive... but looks like the Wolves chose wisely with Edwards over Wiseman. Good for them... and for us.

It's unfortunate Wiseman blew out his knee, because we still don't know who he is going to be. We know he is big, athletic and smart, but we haven't seen enough to conclude on how he plays against true NBA big men. That was my issue with Wiseman in the draft and why I had him third at best. We had a lot of video of him dominating short high school players, and more video of him looking quite good in a handful of games against barely D1 competition. But there was no way to know how these performances would translate to the NBA when he would meet real competition. And after a mixed rookies season, we still don't know. In contrast, we knew everything about Ant based on a full year as a high usage player at Georgia. We knew about his athletic gifts, prolific scoring albeit inefficient scoring and his occasional indifference on defense. Ultimately Ant was my clear choice because I reasoned his shooting efficiency would improve greatly once he was no longer constantly double teamed, at that his athleticism might translate into a decent NBA defender. The jury is still out, but early returns for this kid are quite promising. My guess is Wiseman will end up a serviceable but not great NBA center if injuries don't hold him back, but Ant has true star potential. I'm grateful Rosas took a little time off from dipping his pen in the company inkwell to get this one right.

I don't fault anyone for wanting Wiseman even though I was pro Edwards. Injuries suck. Wiseman is still a very intriguing player. I think my downside with him is there was so little actual basketball he played to evaluate him. Now you have to wonder with his frame if his body will hold up long term. If it does I think he will be an excellent player.

I know it's one game, but watching the preseason and last nights game I've seen somethings that I haven't seen with this team since 2004. Those things are Culture and Indentity. A culture of hard work, and working for your team mates. An indentity of being a gritty team willing to out hussle the oppostion and mate-ships forming between team mates.

And the best thing about it is everyone seems to be buying in. I have high hopes for Chris Finch and this team if this continues to build.
