Wolves FA targets
Wolves FA targets
Lip started off a trade thread but I think it's worth considering who they might be able to get as FAs instead or possibly in addition to trades. I'll through out some names I'll first throw out a bunch of bigs.
Marquis Chriss. Ok I shouldn't be leading with him but since he didn't end the season with a team I kinda forgot about him. In a little over a season with GS he seemed to be more useful and in some weird way became a bit of a fan favorite. I'm not sure he is all that good but he is kind of interesting. Obviously he is not anywhere close to my first choice.
Biyambo
Zeller...if he was healthy he could be a bargain but that's a big IF.
Isaiah Hartenstein
Boban
Jamychal Green
Nerlens Noel
Tony Bradley
Dieng
Dwight Howard
Enes Kanter
Robin Lopez
There are more but I will stop there. The guy I like the most that I think is reasonably proven that I think the Wolves could actually be able to sign is Noel. The young unproven guy that might intrigue me the most in terms of production is Hartenstein. There is quite a few guys out there and some guys will get cut loose that aren't on this list so it could grow. Almost forgot to put Dieng on there. He would be an interested solid vet presence to bring back. This team could use an older guy that could be someone players can learn from. I think Dieng would fit in well with this group.

Here is my order of FA targets for legit Centers in the event we get to this point:
1. Richaun Holmes - He'd be the dream scenario. Probably not happening.
2A. Willie Cauley-Stein (if option not picked up) - Solid defender. Old teammate of KAT. Good defensive rebounder.
2B. Daniel Theis - Basically a tie with WCS. This guy just knows how to play his role and great at positional defense.
3. Nerlens Noel - Another Kentucky guy!

Love the WCS play too Q. It seems like an easy gain.

Daniel Theis is very underrated players not xesy but will do the job, Robin Lopez plays tough defense and rebound and can score so Towns can learn how to play defense from Lopez . Coach Finch will love Lopez (2022 is awesome year).

I think WCS is very easily attainable. I like Noel better and actually I think Theis is gonna get paid a lot more than either and there are good reasons for that. I just watched a bit of video of WCS. He isn't bulky but he is taller than I remember. I looked up his combine measurement and he was over 6'11" in bare feet so he is a legit 7' guy with a 7'3" wingspan. It will be interesting to see if Dallas keeps him around or if they go after a FA.
Re: Wolves FA targets
I'm with Monster in having Noel at the top of my list. Monsters's younger, unproven guy, Hartenstein, is intriguing, but I'd put Theis second on my list after Noel. Holmes would be at the top of my list, but he's obviously not realistic as a pure free-agent play and I don't see the Kings trading him for anything we might offer in return. I'd stay away from WCS. I think he's a chronic underperformed who doesn't have a lot of competitive fire. He's a surprisingly poor rim protector for his size.

Man they better go some form of a trade route because none of those guys affect the amount of games won all that much to me. I actually think D. Howard will only go to contenders for the rest of his NBA life and wouldn't view MN as a contender this year. I do however see Howard as a decent specific role type of player, he gets in there and can wear down, shove, get under guys skin vs certain opposing centers.
With the current list of potential MN big men: Kat, Reid, McDaniels, Prince, Hernangomez, Layman, Vanderbilt.
You have to ask yourself when would you play N. Noel or some other listed player in original posters list over a combo of what we already have?
How much better would this addition FA be over the current big men we have?
To me Vanderbilt has more upside than any of the listed players so I would want him back. Otherwise we need a move via trade to really be worth it.
If we add a depth decent big please learn from the Hernangomez deal and keep it on a one year deal.

I agree with you that the Wolves really need to trade for a big if they're going to significantly move the needle. On the other hand, I think a guy like Noel or Theis could make a positive difference. I agree with you that Vanderbilt has more upside than any of the guys listed so I'm with you in wanting him back. Noel stands out from the crowd, including from our own bigs like Vanderbilt, in that he's a proven rim protector. I don't see Vanderbilt ever becoming much of a rim protector even though I love his overall potential as a defensive big and rebounder. I'd envision Noel as a starter next to KAT. I'd say the same about Theis, although I could see Vanderbilt displacing him eventually. And yes, let's hope Rosas has learned his lesson from the Juancho deal.

The Knicks were a good defensive team last season and I think Noel should get some credit for that. He started 41 games and played the 4th most minutes on that team. He played in the neighborhood of twice as many minutes as Michell Robinson so he was a legit player on a team that surprisingly had a winning record making the playoffs and went from below average on defense to very good. So yeah I would play him some minutes over some of the Wolves players we already have. I'm with you in wanting to get Reid playing more. Noel would work well with both Towns and Reid since they are both outside shooters.

Re: Wolves FA targets
I think Noel probably gets a decent check from a team and probably more than I would want to commit too. He has major offensive limitations and I like McDaniels and Reid quite a bit so to me I'd rather develop Vanderbilt than bring in Noel at the price I think he will cost. I do think Noel's defense would fit well though, just more of an expected price tag type of thing for me.
