I think we should give Finch (Rosas best friend) a chance to lead this team rather an unknown young Ryan Saunders (country club). Now look at the Suns turn around after they got new coach Monty Williams and one leg old chris paul and 3D in Jae Crowder got them into the Finals.

Personally I'm a fan of this deal. Prince isn't a great player by any means but he is at least a decent rotation player and give the Wolves another option at both the 4 and the 3 which are spots they can use more depth. The Wolves also get a 2nd round pick next year which is a decent asset to get back in this type of trade. Of course the most exciting thing about this deal is the 4.8 million in space below the tax line the Wolves now have. This allows them to sign another FA without going over the tax while also having room to sign Vanderbilt to a cheap deal. This also helps balance the roster.

Now the Wolves do have another spot to fill as they don't have a proven backup PG. Fortunately there will be some decent player that will be available cheap I feel pretty confident in that. They could also go with younger guys that they have been developing. Heck Culver could even get minutes at that spot. Will they look at another international guard? Maybe they believe more strongly in Bolmaro than we do? I like that the Wolves have financial options that they didn't before. If they get Vanderbilt back cheap enough they could possibly even cut a guy like Layman and still be able to sign another vet min player.

You think they were targeting Prince as the solution to our PF hole?? I sure as hell hope not. We have existing guys on the roster that are just as mediocre. This was a salary cap move from what I can tell.

No I think they were targeting him as the back up power foward or 9th/10th man depending on the night. I dont understand how you are reading my post but yes this is about saving money with a bench player. I think this signals Vando and Juancho arent huge priorities and I suspect Rosas will continue to work to figure out the starting 4.

Gotcha. I read your post too fast and didn't discern that you had him pegged as the main backup to starting PF TBD.

Still, I'd personally prefer Vando over Prince as our main backup 4.

Yeah on some nights I think you'd be right. I do think he's an upgrade to Juancho which is why Im thinking Juancho is as good as gone. I suspect signing Vando is not priority #1 for Rosas at this point. He's likely going a available for a while and if some other team grabs him, good for Vando.

Personally I think this move makes it more likely they keep Vanderbilt. Before if a team even offered say 4 million a year the Wolves right at the Lux tax may have had to wonder if they could match. Now they have Lux tax space and this could be the year to sign him to a cheap deal. Vanderbilt played more minutes than Juancho last season. He started 30 games which is more than Juancho, Layman and Ed Davis combined. Isn't he working out with other Wolves players this offseason? Before last season they were really excited about him and quite frankly he played pretty well last year considering his age and level of experience so he didn't disappoint. Rosas said in his chat with Wolfson there was a priority this offseason for their own FAs. I would guess Vanderbilt is who he was talking about as it was only him and McLaughlin that were FAs at the time.

Taurean prince on his insta for what it's worth a couple weeks ago said: Been a couple years since being healthy physically, successful procedure overall id say. 0 pain walking, or running, waking up with a clearer/happier mental, and no longer have to limp to use the restroom every morning. This is the best I have felt since 2018. Excuses never. What I do know is I got two wheels now instead of one. I'll leave it at that.

Seems like he may be healthy for first time in a couple years. Maybe it's not as bad as we all think. He was pretty good a few years ago.

Prince is an average NBA player in every way. His best VORP is 0.6... worst is -0.4.

Best PER is 12.8... worst is 9.1.

I don't see any ceiling here. he's paid $15M per year.

Meh in the most meh way possible. For those thinking some of these Wolves players have value... remember Rubio has at least some history of halfway decent play and an expiring deal... and he returns a 2nd, prince and cash.

Moving deck furniture. Again.

Rosas has shown a desire to kick the can down the road. He has always been cognizant of having moveable salary. That's the whole idea behind interest in Gallinari. He likes having a player that holds a high salary slot. By trading an expiring for a smaller expiring I feel he plans on adding some salary either with another trade for an all-in big move or using the MLE.

Thanks for posting. It's possible he plays well enough to end up becoming a trade asset at some point although he might even be one now. Watching a few highlights he looks longer than I remember and he has some playmaking ability. He is also a much better 3 point shooter than I remember. He is an upgrade there.

Also I just read that the 2022 2nd round pick is Washington's. If they do end up trading Beal that pick starts to look pretty good maybe even better than if it was the Cavs.

Prince is making $13 million. He turned 27 this year so yeah not exactly a lot of upside.

I agree with your take Abe that Rubio and some other guys don't have a ton of value. Rubio did clearly have some legit positive value though as the Wolves were able to have someone take 4.8 million more in salary a possible valuable 2nd round pick wizards and then were able to get 2.5 million in cash and Prince who might be a decent player so yes I know that's not exactly a haul for him or anything but I think there was some value for this move. The idea that the Wolves could or should have gotten Larry Nance back in this deal is laughable.

For whatever reason Pro basketballreference.com has it at $15,057,692 next season.

Weird. I've never seen them get a contract wrong. I usually use the other sites more for the contract numbers. Every other site has the 13 million number.
