Wolves 2nd 1st round pick in serious trouble

Post by kekgeek »

For the wizards to get into the playoffs they need to be within 4 games of the 8 seed to play in a play in game. Currently Nets (who wolves have their lotto protected pick) are 6 games up with 8 to play. Currently Irving, Durant, Jordan, Chandler, Claxton and sounds like Dimwidde are all not going to play in Florida. Meaning the wolves pick is in serious danger not having some of their top guys.

The tank is on for the Nets. Everything was built for next year so keeping that pick is another asset they can use for next year.

It's also top 14 protected the next two years before being converted to a second rounder if it doesn't convey by then, right?

The pick likely wouldn't be as good next summer because the Nets will definitely be better with KD and Kyrie, but at least next year's draft should be better. Plus, the Warriors get our first rounder next year (unless it's top 3), so it would be nice to have at least one first rounder next year. So there's at least a bit of a silver lining.

Anybody tempted to trade down if we get a high pick this year? I feel uneasy that these top picks will be worth it, and it seems like there should be some decent role players a bit further down in the draft.

I would be tempted to trade out of the draft completely. This year and next are going to be odd years for the NBA. Basketball is the furthest thing from my mind in the summer outside Timberwolves Xmas. (NBA Draft)

I'm not worried about it because next year having any first round pick will be a total crapshoot. It's possible you could pick someone in any part of the draft and get a good or bad player. I might be more inclined to keep that pick for this year just because it seems like there are some pretty decent prospects we could get and you can at least start some sort of development on them. Some guy you pick next year may have not played much competitive organized ball for at least a year. The Nets signed Tyler Johnson so they will be just fine holding onto the playoff spot. Lol

In addition...who knows if the Nets will actually be good next year if there is some sort of season. There is a possibility that team could sorta go off the rails a bit. Who is even going to be coaching them? Will guys sign there to chase a ring like the normally would or will some guys just not even play?

They signed Jamal Crawford and Michael Beasley so that pick is clearly secured.

With Beal not playing, I'd say so.
