I was really disappointed to hear the Wilfs aren't interested. KG + a bunch of behind-the-scenes rich guys I don't see as all that much better than Glen. KG seems like the type of guy that would be a horrible owner.

Glen has held out this long based on his desire to keep the team in MN. So I don't see him giving in now. Whoever buys the team will have to give Glen both a verbal and contractual assurance that they'll keep the team in MN. Glen will require the buyer to look him in the eye and promise not to move the team. So a buyer will have to lie to Glen if they take the team elsewhere. More importantly, Glen can build a penalty into the contract that requires far more than $50 million from the buyer if the buyer takes the team to another state. He can do that by selling the team for, let's say, 1 billion, but with an extra $500 million payable to Glen (or his estate) if the team is relocated in the next 15 years. In other words, Glen would be offering a discounted price contingent upon keeping the team in MN.

Furthermore, the NBA will resist any effort to move the team to Seattle for two reasons. First, the League will be reluctant to lose a team in the Nation's 15th biggest media market. Second, because of the huge expansion fees payable by incoming teams, the League would be much better off financially by expanding into Seattle (and Vegas) with two new teams than by allowing the Wolves to move to Seattle or Vegas.

So I'm more worried about the quality of the new ownership than about where the owner might move the team.

I think Lip makes a good point the NBA if things can get back to normal after the pandemic are likely more interested in expanding than moving out of MN. Wasn't there some talk about the Kings getting moved to Seattle at one point not too long ago?

I actually laughed when I wrote it. I couldn't resist the "look him in the eye" reference. :). But I would expect Taylor to get a contractual commitment backed by significant financial disincentives to moving the team. Unfortunately, Glen couldn't include anything analogous in Wiggins' contract - i.e., play with heart and intensity or give back half your salary. And I do see the League resisting any effort to move the Wolves to Seattle given the far more lucrative alternative of expansion, which would open up two new markets without losing a presence in the Country's 15th biggest media market.
