If the Wolves are looking to make any deals this summer, two questions come to mind. (1) What teams will be motivated to deal this summer, and (2) what player do they have who might be good fits for the Wolves? With those questions in mind, the Atlanta Hawks come to mind. Consider the following excerpt from an article I saw earlier today:
ATLANTA -- Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler said Thursday the team won't repeat the "mistake" of complacency that he believes set the stage for this season's disappointing first-round exit from the playoffs.
Ressler said the Hawks won't stand pat this offseason -- even if that means paying a salary tax.
I think the best fit for the Wolves on the Hawks roster is Clint Capela. I'd love to get that guy. Unfortunately, I don't see a viable deal that brings him here unless the Wolves are willing to include KAT in the deal. But perhaps there are some viable trade options for John Collins, De'Andre Hunter or Onyeka Okongwu.
Atlanta Hawks And Orlando Magic As Potential Wolves Trade Partner
Re: Atlanta Hawks And Orlando Magic As Potential Wolves Trade Partner
Another team that comes to mind as a potential summer trade partner for the Wolves is Orlando. Two things suggest they're a good potential trade partner: (1) they're a bad rebuilding team that will probably be interested in more draft picks and the Wolves have both the 19th pick in the 1st round and three 2nd-round picks this year in addition to all our future 1st-round picks; and (2) the Magic have a bevy of bigs and our top need is a rebounding and/or shot-blocking big.
Orlando's bigs who are under contract or RFAs are:
Mo Bamba
Wendell Carter Jr.
Moritz Wagner
Perhaps they'd be interested in a deal for Wendell Carter. Not sure what we would need to offer, but I would imagine that Naz Reid and our #19 pick would need to be part of the package.

The Magic certainly make some sense as a trade partner. FWIW they already have the Pacers 2nd rounder this year so they already have a top pick in the first round #32 and #35. WCJ is a on a pretty reasonable contract at some point even if he was just a key backup instead of a starter it would still be reasonable. That adds to his value...which means we might have to give up something kinda good to get him. Just looked at his stats this year 15 and 10.5 in less than 30 mins a game. That's a pretty good season and he just turned 23. So what are we looking at Beasley Naz Reid #19 and if they want another 2nd rounder sure we can throw one in? That's kind of a lot but I may consider it. I watched zero WCJ minutes this season so it's hard to really say for sure. I think the Magic would be more willing to trade a big if they ended up with one in this draft. What happens with this draft could shake loose (in terms of availability) a player that a team may have been less likely to deal or they were on the fence about.

Wendell Carter Jr just got a $50 mil contract extension that begins next season.
Mo Wagner is by far your best hope out of their group of bigs unless you're deciding to give Bamba the full MLE to back up Towns.

I think Mo Bamba will cost more than the full MLE. He's a RFA and I think we'd have to do a sign-and-trade to get him. the question in my mind is whether the Magic want to keep both Carter and Moe, especially if it means paying Bamba what he's likely to command in the market. I think the price for Bamba would be similar to the price for Carter - something similar to what Monster suggested: Beasley, Reid and #19.
Re: Atlanta Hawks And Orlando Magic As Potential Wolves Trade Partner
As Cam pointed out in another thread, what about Jonathan Isaac? Has missed the enitre last two season with an ACL injury and being unvaccinated.
He is still only 24. Legit good defender. Good size and length. Improved rebounder. Has a decent enough 3pt shot to keep defenders honest. Is a good fit next to KAT.
Might be acquirable with Orlando's current depth in the front court, and they'll almost definitely re sign Mo Bamba to play along side Wendell Carter and Franz Wagner.
Malik Beasley, Leandro Barbosa, this years 19th and 48th Pick for Jonathan Isaac.
Russell / Beverley / McLaughlin
Edwards / Nowell
McDaniels / Prince (resigned)
Isaac / Vanderbilt
Towns / Reid / Hartenstein (signed)

Isaac is intriguing, but I'd stay away. He's coming off both an ACL and meniscus tear. And those are on top of a string of injuries in prior years. He has a big red flag flying over him as a high injury risk. As Cam pointed out, his injury history is what would make him gettable. But we'd still have to give up valuable assets to get him and I think the risk of using those assets to get him is too high in light of his injury propensity.
If we're going to pursue a trade for a big, then I'd focus on Mitchell Robinson, Mo Bamba, and Wendell Carter Jr. - maybe also John Collins and Okongwu. Maybe Steven Adams.
Otherwise, my top free agent bigs to pursue would be Nurkic and Hartenstein. In know that Nurkic has an injury red flag flying over him as well. But that might make him signable for the MLE and, unlike Isaac, we wouldn't have to give up significant assets to get him.

Re: Atlanta Hawks And Orlando Magic As Potential Wolves Trade Partner
Ok Lip. I understand you may be bored because the Wolves have been knocked out and you're not a Twins or Wild guy, but c'mon.
MWagner played great for them, he has a $1.8m team option (after which they'll have Bird Rights), and I guess I'm the only one who knows this, but his brother Franz also plays for the Magic. They're both playing great, they love Orlando, and the Magic love them back. But the Magic are going to screw that up for ..... the 19th pick?
Carter signed an extension last Oct for 4yrs/$50m. So he makes less money than Beasley, had a better season, and has yet to shoot up Plymouth, so the Magic are doing this again...why?
And finally Bamba, the Biyombo of Summer '22. It was a contract year, so he seriously tried his best, and his best was....below average. CHA signs him for 4yrs/$48m first day of free agency if he would, but his agent has convinced him that he is worth 4yrs/$80m. He's not, and should not be discussed amongst serious adults until his price comes way down.
If the Wolves want to get better, best chance they have is with the Magic is some combination of DR/MB/PB for some combination of Issac/Fultz/Ross. BUT....if they want to move on from KAT, then Issac/Fultz/#2/#32/#35 is the best offer they are going to get. Here's the problem: The Magic LOVE this draft. I don't know if they actually asked Suggs, or they think there's some 13th century Viking law that requires you to be friends with everyone from your Minnesota High School, but they think Holmgren and Suggs want to play together, and with the Wagner brothers can totally beat Baylor.
Atlanta? Oh yeah, Jamie Gertz' husband is totally bored with this team, and maybe he should be. But they aren't trading TY/CC. But if they package enough of DR/MB/PB and picks, JC/DG/BB/KH are all in play. Or, again, KAT to ATL for some combination of those 4 and picks coming back.
I would love nothing more to see you do an honest-to-god deep dive of some REALISTIC trades with each of the other 29 teams. Sometimes the trades involves expirings/picks that make MIN better, and maybe sometimes they involve KAT with players and picks coming back, or maybe even one trade of each from each team. Your choice. I'll start you with an easy one: CHA finished 10 games (and 4 pts of differential) behind PHI despite playing 4-on-5 because they got absolutely nothing from their Centers. I could absolute see KAT for GH/#13/#15, or for a trade where MIN gets better, maybe MB/PB/picks for Bridges sign/trade.
But this fever-dream that it's 2005 and there are 10 shit front-offices? No way. I'm still not confident in MJ, and yeah, SAC is mess. But there just aren't 10 barely-literate former basketball players (or John Weisbrod) who have free reign anymore. Ainge is absolutely going to blow up the Jazz this summer, and everyone is OK with it. Not because he was Shooting-Guard-slash-Third-Base for BYU, but because it is the thing to do and he has a successful track record.
