I have been an unabashed supporter of Chris Finch from the beginning, and my observation is that this board largely thinks of him favorably. But when management makes a home run swing and the team responds with a 5-7 start to the season despite a very soft schedule, they have to at least consider the role the coach has had in the poor start.
Jon K wrote yesterday (with a sideways slap at our former coach) that the mood of the team resembles what it was back in the Thibs days...somber and joyless. And frankly Finchie appears joyless during his post-game remarks. And the Arena is becoming progressively more joyless with each poor home court performance. It hasn't been fun going to the last two games.
Something needs to change. Rather than management making a knee jerk move in replacing Finchie, I want to see him first do something different. Allowing the starters to continue to give up so many wide-open 3-pointers sends a tacit message that it is all right. And it's not all right...our perimeter defense is a joke. I mentioned in the GDT that Ant and DLo are a disastrous combo on defense, and not much better on offense with their reluctance to move the ball. Finchie needs to split them up and have one of them become our instant offense off the bench. That simply has to happen, and hopefully we see a new lineup Friday night against the Grizzlies.
If Chris doesn't make some changes soon and this team continues to struggle, or if he does and the team still struggles, I think ownership and TC have to think about whether they have the right guy coaching the team. But first things first...Finchie needs to shake things up right now before this team is doomed to a .500 season.
Chris Finch- is he the right coach for this team?

Every struggling/disappointing team has a pecking order of fall guys. Obviously, the coach is always very close to the top. They're much easier to replace than highly paid star players. So... what would the Wolves hierarchy look like?
1. Russell. He's on an expiring contract, so there's less to lose if he gets blamed, benched, traded, et al. So for the one of the few times, I'm putting a player above the coach.
2. Finch.
3. Towns. He's been the one constant here. And he's more expendable than ever with another All-NBA-esque center on the roster. AND... you can tell from this forum or comments elsewhere from fans, he's becoming a lightning rod. It's similar to his time with Andrew Wiggins. Even though Towns was MUCH better, they were grouped together by so many. We're seeing that now with Towns and Russell. Dumping Towns, however, would cast a shadow over Connelly and Co. for taking such a big swing and missing THAT badly that quickly.
4. Connelly. Nope. Too soon. Too much money.
5. Edwards. Nope. Unless it's for PR purposes... but I don't think that's how it works with athletes nowadays. They'd risk alienating their prized young player. (although I think he's a big reason for the issues right now)
6. Heck, we can't even blame Taylor for this one! Seems weird, huh?
