2022 Off-Season Around the League
Re: 2022 Off-Season Around the League
More details on the Jeremi Grant trade and it makes the return for Grant look better for Detroit. Moving up from 46 to 36 this year is good and also a couple future 2nds are nice to have. Oh and cap space!
Edit: Also it seemed pretty clear to me after the Blazers made all their moves at the trade deadline they were never doing a full tear down end rebuild they were just reconfiguring their roster.

"The Blazers have been pursuing Grant to pair with All-NBA guard Damian Lillard for over a year and now land him and absorb his $21 million salary using a trade exception, sources said.
The Milwaukee Bucks' pick is protected 1 through 4. The deal also includes Detroit acquiring Portland's No. 36 pick in Thursday's NBA draft for the Blazers at No. 46, as well as a 2025 second-round pick that Detroit had owed Portland, sources said. The Pistons also get a 2026 second-round pick from the Blazers, which will be the most favorable between Portland's and the New Orleans Pelicans'.
The deal delivers the Pistons $43 million in salary cap space for free agency, and gives them the fifth and 36th picks in Thursday's draft.
New Blazers GM Joe Cronin has overhauled the Blazers roster, and now moves toward making his first draft pick at No. 7 on Thursday night.
Grant, 28, is eligible to sign a four-year, $112 million extension beginning in December. He's entering the final year of his contract."

Thanks for the additional info, Monster. It's a great deal for Portland and a decent deal for Detroit.

I think it works out for Detroit if Ayton is on the Pistons next year. There are rumors that the Pistons are going to offer Ayton and Bridges some big money so we will see. If they land both of those 2 the Pistons actually become a pretty fun and interesting team.

Hornets fired James Borrego do a lengthy coaching search hire kenny Atkinson and then he doesn't sign the contract and backs out. I didn't even realize that had happened till the draft. Well they ended up hiring a coach they got their guy and brought back Steve Clifford!!! It's not an inspiring hire but I do think he is a competent coach. If he hires an assistant that does well with offense it might work out alright...until they decide to hire someone else. Anyways it's a bizarre turn of events. Like someone commented on the story, in 2025 they will bring back James Borrego. Lol

I know, right? The level of dysfunction that is needed to bring back a coach you previously fired is mind-blowing. And at the risk of speaking ill of the dead, are we 100% sure Flip wasn't the Art-Shell-Slash-Bobby-Valentine of the NBA {wasting the best seasons of otherwise well-constructed teams}? Maybe we were too hard on Lurch and he actually did a good job with some of those MIN teams from 20-25 years ago, and maybe a better coach does more with the Pistons than he did those three years he was there? (Just asking. Please don't call me disrespectful.)

Zach Klein of WSB-TV Atlanta:
"In talking with multiple sources around the NBA, many believe Hawks on verge of trading for San Antonio's All-Star guard Dejounte Murray - However, it's looking like John Collins is not part of deal. Would be Gallo & multiple 1st round picks. Spurs prepping for future & '23 draft"

I'm just glad that another Western Conference team is looking to tear the studs down and rebuild. I was hoping Portland would go this route, but they are obviously trying to make one more playoff run with Lillard as their centerpiece.

John Wall getting bought out and sounds like he is going to the Clippers

I'm kinda cheering for John Wall to have some level of success again for a couple years before his career is over. I can't feel too bad for a guy that made a bunch of money but it's like people just think he is a joke because he is so over paid. If he doesn't get hurt again I think he can still play. Additionally that eliminates a team looking for a PG as people on this board said the Clippers were looking for one.

This hurts the market for DLO. Wall, Kyrie, Brogdon and Brunson all seem in line ahead of DLO in the market for PGs.
