Lol. Well, I'd prefer to spend my summer vacations somewhere outside of a prison. But point well taken. :)
And Beasley still got paid pretty well. I think he would have gotten more money or a longer contract but he didn't have to take the massive cut many of us thought he might. Every situation is different though.
So how much did the Hawks really give up for Murray? Taking another look, I think don't think the Hawks gave up that much when you consider the player they received in return. Let's take a look at what they gave up:
1. Gallo -- Giving up Gallo was just salary filler. He has no meaningful value to the Hawks and, at this point, he's a pretty marginal player in the NBA.
2. Charlotte's 2023 first round pick along with Atlanta's own unprotected 1st-round picks in 2025 and 2027 -- The Hawks retain their own 2023 first-round pick and are simply trading Charlotte's 1st-round pick they obtained form the Knicks. Note also that the pick is top 16 protected in 2023, and lottery protected in 2024 and 2025. After that it converts to two second-round picks. In other words, the Spurs might not end up with three first-round picks in the deal once the dust has settled. From Atlanta's standpoint, they still have all but two of their own 1st round picks over the next 5 years.
3. A first-round pick swap in 2026. It's just a swap, which means Atlanta isn't losing another pick. Moreover, it highly unlikely that Atlanta will be negatively impacted because the Spurs will probably have the better pick anyway.
All of this just underscores the value of having some extra future first-round picks because you can make deals by giving up other teams' draft picks. But it also makes me wonder where the Wolves could and should have gotten Murray. It strikes me that the equivalent offer from the Wolves would have. been the following:
1. Beasley (or perhaps DLO in which case the Spurs could have give us McDermott)
2. Wolves 2023 1st (top 16 protected in 2023, lottery protected 2024-25, converting to two 2nd-rounders thereafter)
3. Wolves 2025 1st unprotected
4. 2026 pick swap
5. Wolves 2027 1st unprotected.
Perhaps the Wolves could have offered Naz and, in return, gotten a couple 2nd-round picks back. Anyway, just a thought. I'm not unhappy with the decision to pass on trading for Murray. But he would have been a great addition and perhaps it would have been worth it.

Wow! I started out liking Durant his first few years in the League. But now I can't stand the guy. He's suck a prissy whiner. He went to the Warriors to take the pressure off himself. Then he left the Warriors in a huff because he didn't think he was appreciated or featured enough there. So then he collaborates with his buddies Harden and Kyrie to create a "super team" in Brooklyn. But now as things aren't going well for him he's demanding a trade. Throughout all of this, he's constantly whining about and over-reacting to criticism in social media. Just a little petulant child.
But he's super talented and he gives his all on the court. Unlike Kyrie, he actually shows up to play. So contending teams will now be lining up to try and get him.
