It's a long season but I see the end result of KAT getting traded this offseason. I still think the Wolves finish the season well, even win a playoff series. But the guy who will not perform well when it matters most will be KAT.

I'm not at all opposed to it either if this scenario happens. Obviously I would prefer to see KAT and the team turn it around. When I say KAT turn it around, I'm talking about his subpar defense, kicking his feet out, crying and whining all the time and other negative energy. Then of course mostly piss poor playoff performances. Some great but too much poor to be fair.

The question is, what can we get for him in the offseason?

It's a long season, we will do well then shifting gears to what can we get for KAT? Thanks for the laugh

I've defended keeping him forever, but I just don't see him changing his antics and his mostly poor playoff performances.

I just have lost hope that he himself will change for the better. I'm sick of him saying the right things (for the most part) but then acting like a whiny crybaby on the court most of the time. His negativity brings the team down IMO.

There is just too much inconsistency for me. Too much of a roller coaster ride. I'm at the point that trading him, letting DLO walk and building around Rudy and the young guys is what will likely be best for the long term.

But on the other hand there is a slight chance he does change his ways and then I'm all in, but I need to see it happen. I just don't think it will.

Building around the 30-year old Rudy and the young guys (ages 21-23) doesn't make much sense. If things don't work out with Gobert and KAT to the point where the Wolves feel compelled to trade KAT, then they'll have to trade Rudy too. Of course, they'll trade him for pennies on the dollar compared to what they gave up. As I said right after the trade, if the Wolves had immediate put Rudy on the market they would have gotten a fraction of what they gave up to get him. If the Wolves' Gobert/KAT experiment fails, then the Wolves will get even less for Gobert than they would have gotten if they had traded him right after getting him. That's why market value matters. It's not smart to pay above market value for a player based on what you believe that player's value is to your team.

I'm sort of at my wits end with KAT too. But Gobert hasn't been all that impressive in these four games. Some of his well-known weaknesses have been exposed - very little offensive game, relatively poor hands, fairly slow feet and a not a lot of toughness. He's an elite vertical defender and rebounder in the paint. If KAT, Edwards and McDaniels would play up to their potential consistently, then Rudy would help this team a lot as an elite complementary player. If not, it will be a long season. I'd still rather have Beverley, Vando, Beasley, Kessler and the 4 first-round picks we gave up. But alas, Connelly wasn't being honest when he said he just wanted to say out of the way and not mess things up. He certainly didn't stay out of the way and he may have messed things up. Then again, this team might pull itself together and get on a roll. In the NBA, the cream tends to rise over the course of an 82-game season. Judgements like the one I'm making 4 games in can miss the mark by a mile. :)

Rudy isn't showing signs of slowing down anytime soon. His skill is based on footwork, positioning and length. He doesn't foul. He also sets screens at an elite rate, another thing which ages well. He barely needs to jump to dunk. He finishes in the paint at 70%, the best in the NBA. I don't see why Rudy can't be effective until he is in his late 30's. Being the best rebounder, blocker, defender and finisher at the rim will age well.

He is by far the Wolves best player as of now and that will likely continue unless Ant can significantly improve.

I don't see why trading KAT would mean we have to trade Rudy. In fact, I think it would be smart to keep him as our defensive anchor. Again, it's way to early for these discussions. But if you want to talk hypotheticals, trading KAT could happen to restock our cupboard and then some. I'm tired of hearing his talent overcomes his issues, it doesn't.

Yes, I'm on board with this. Build around gobert, Jaden, Ant and hopefully Nowell. Kat needs to go. I'm just going to say who the hell is Kat to call out Ant? Someone said this team hates each other... yeah, but I'm pretty sure this team mostly hates Kat. I bet teammates get sick of him the same as fans do. Also, what this team is really missing is a strong vocal veteran leader at the PG position... I say PG specifically because I think a Beverly or Rubio would go a long way to helping this teams cohesion.

Agreed. I like Rudy a lot more on this team if Kat is gone.

I remember Tom Crean talking about how Ant the prospect had work to do when it came to diet. It sounds like he hasn't quite fixed that side of things.

I think now that we have 3rd year Ant, the innocence and effervescence is starting to wear off. Given his level of talent, he has to start being more of a tone setter.

KAT has his own glaring flaws, but I'll say it again....His version of a bad game is still a hell of a lot better than Ant's version.

This was to good not to post.

It's just weird overall. Ant talk about all offseason he is on a strict diet. Jester reports that Kat and Ant get into it in the tunnel.

Kat publicly bashes Ant 4 games in.

There has been 0 joy to this team so far.

I'm not a big doing overreact guy but all signs point that team hates each other.

KAT also can't be traded this year because of the extension. So this is the team assuming Ant is untouchable

This team can still get it's act together and have a good season, maybe finishing in the 5-7 range. But the situation is teetering on the edge of a debacle that ends in a lottery finish - to the delight of all Utah Jazz fans. As yo noted, KAT can't be traded this season. And I can't see the team trading Ant. If the Wolves are still a mess in December, then the front office will have to do something and they'll face a tough choice. Do they trade a lot of their young talent (Nowell, JMac, Naz Reid, Moore, Minott and/or even McDaniels) for a win-now vet or two in a last ditch effort to belatedly right the ship? Or do they start planning for another rebuild/retool around Ant after the season when they might trade either KAT or Gobert (maybe both), for young players and picks. Of course, the Wolves aren't going to get more than 1 couple protected first-round picks for Gobert. KAT's the guy who would bring in the most assets by far.

After the Gobert trade, KAT said "it's championship or bust." That comment was only slightly hyperbolic. In any event, we're far from the "bust" stage. But there's a lot wrong with this team that needs fixing over the next month. If those things aren't fixed, then we'll be talking about plan B or C, either of which would be pretty depressing.

I don't disagree with you really. I well say though that the wolves would be in the play in still if the playoffs started today (so silly of me saying that statement 4 games in). Nuggets would just be out of the playoffs.

I trust Chris Finch, I trust the talent of Ant, Kat, Gobert to figure it out.

On to the next one

Kek, That's a balanced outlook on things. That 12 hour break from the team and board did you wonders! :)

Haha, I will never actually leave this board. It's like a drug. Do think this board really missed monster when he isn't posting and his positivity.

I work in a profession where I work with people who struggle every day with mental health and negatively. This board is my one outlet where I can just vent and I am irrational during games (think I'm solid outside of games, haha).

Yesterday I was like I'm not dealing with this board negativity today.

I really do appreciate the posts of you and Doper, game reports from lip. Contributions from Cool, FNG, Jester, SP, Raptor, Ledeo, SP, 60win, Cam/Abe/Monster when do occasionally post and anyone who posts.

This board is great just was not doing more negativity yesterday after the game.
