Wolves vs. Grizz (Game 1), GDT

Post by KG4Ever »

I am excited to see what we got.
Here's what I am most excited to see:
(1) Edwards NBA debut: While I didn't like the pick, there is no denying he has some nice physical tools and the Wolves desperately need him to become a star.
(2) Ricky Rubio and how he fits in with DLO.
(3) Culver: He can't possibly shoot as bad as last year, can he? I liked his defense and hope to see some improved shooting this year.
(4) KAT's demeanor and focus.
(5) Who gets playing time

Tomorrow night, but its been such a long wait, I figured we could get a game thread rolling. Nice to see the NBA back in action tonight.

I'd love nothing more than for tomorrow's game to become the Jarrett Culver show -- and Anthony Edwards to a lesser degree. Ironically, Edwards should have little pressure on him to produce right away even as a top overall pick, but I feel like Culver needs to prove that he's better than he was last year and that he's improved upon his decent second half last year.

I'd also like to see Rondae Hollis-Jefferson get plenty of burn. He needs court time with these guys as every other three and four has been in camp for a while now.

Love the enthusiasm. And like Cam just said, if we can hit on Culver and Edwards this year to be big contributors, this will be a fun team to watch.

I'm going to try to avoid staring at box scores too much this pre-season and instead focus on lineups, decision-making, and schemes.

Who starts? - That is probably the most intriguing thing tonight to me.

KAT - I think KG nailed it. Is he pouty and somber or does he show some energy?

Edwards - The big thing I will be looking for is shot selection. Is he trying hard to get to the rim or settling for contested pull-up jumpers? If it's the former, that is a very good sign that the kid is teachable.

Okogie - Is he truly being more disciplined defensively (something he said in his press interview he was striving for this season) or is he being over-enthusiastic in help defense or trying to draw offensive fouls? Culver showed last year that he is the more disciplined defender even though Okogie is more flashy. Most of the great defenders in the league do so without a ton of flash because so much of it is about positioning and staying disciplined.

Culver - How is his shooting form? Is he still aiming and knuckle-balling the shot or does his mechanics look more smooth? I will try not to care about the actual results and just look at his form.

DLO/Rubio - There is nothing particular in either's individual game I am looking for, but it's just more how they are utilized together vs. apart.

Vando - Does he distinguish himself in the way I know he is capable, with high-level defense and rebounding and the ability to help lead a break. Or does he distinguish himself through poor decisions with the ball that leads to turnovers?

RHJ - On paper, he is the best 4 on the roster right now. Does that become obvious via the eye test over the pre-season as well? Or does someone from the Jauncho/Layman/Vando trio give him some real competition?

Does someone deeper on the roster really surprise us? Reid, Nowell, McDaniels? Anyone else?

I think Ryan said he isn't going to run a rotation tonight. A lot of lineup combos and the main guys won't play much.

Don't know where I saw this but I did

Apparently Naz is out tonight. Does RHJ backup KAT? Or are we running Ed Davis out there...

I get that whatever we see tonight won't be THE rotation per se, but don't you think the starting lineup will be pretty close to what we should expect to start the regular season? I would think they get a good run in the first quarter and then the experimentation begins after that.
