Good riddance. Scott Layden should have never been hired here in the first place given his track record. Luckily for him, he had a standing relationship with Tom Thibodeau when he was hired into his dual-role position or else he could very well be retired by now.

Layden also should have been cut loose when Gersson Rosas was hired, but of course Glen Taylor vouched for him to retain his position because the old man liked and trusted Layden. I love when ownership dictates that their favorites have to stay despite the quality of their work showing they should be relieved of all duties.

How many executives in the league have as much "meh" on their resumes as Layden does? He's done much of nothing in the decades that he's been involved in the NBA. He's another one of these guys that have been rewarded for having the right last name as he got his entry into the NBA via his father, Frank Layden. Gee, I wonder where we've heard this story before, Wolves fans?

I'm sure Layden is a decent guy and to his credit he's been in an awkward position over the last two seasons while not ruffling feathers along the way, but he will not be missed from a basketball management standpoint whatsoever.

Jon K reports Layden still lives in NY so basically part of this was he decided with COVID protocols etc it was time to move on a few months early before his contract expired In April. Gotta wonder if he ends up working for the Knicks in some capacity.

Why would the Knicks hire him?

"The Knicks under Layden's watch (and of his successor Isiah Thomas) were called the "Worst Franchise in Sports" by ESPN.com."

By the way, I didn't know Layden was still employed by the Wolves.

Because of the success he and Thibbs had together with Wolves??

IDK he lives there and maybe he and Thibs still get along and Knicks GM Leon Rose is a former agent. Nobody is hiring Layden to be THE guy but he is respected around the league and would likely have some value to an organization in some role...not that I care much what he does just throwing it out there as a possibility.

True. There is the Thibs connection. But I have to imagine his name is still toxic out there... and that bringing him back even in a lesser role would be bad optics for a front office that's actually making slight gains in looking competent for once.

As you note though, not like it really matters much to either of us.

Your point about optics is a good one. If I was the Knicks and I thought Layden was going to bring legit value to my organization I would still hire him fans be damned...some would have to read about it as they weren't alive or old enough to remember. The Spurs don't hire dummies. I'm not suggesting Layden is some basketball genius but just because he isn't worthy to be a top basketball executive doesn't mean he doesn't have value. Anyway I wish him well...which might still mean he should steer clear of working for the Knicks. Lol
