I can't say I have a problem with that...
My guess is that we will see multiple starting lineups over the course of pre-season with this being one of them. Is Juan Hernangomez not playing tonight?
I'd guess they are going with Layman Tonight since Juancho and others were late to get in because of Covid protocols or whatever. Maybe Layman is really doing well in practices and maybe doing some good things of defense. In theory Layman has the skill set to be an excellent complimentary player for this team maybe even as a starter at a forward spot. MAYBE he puts that together this year. That would be a pretty big deal. I'm not reading much of anything into this preseason start though but it's certainly a little interesting.

I hadn't thought about the COVID protocols, but Hernangomez has been running around in practice around other players so that wouldn't make much sense to me.
I think we'll see Layman at both forward spots during the season, but his lack of rebounding makes him a poor fit next to Towns as a four.

Yeah, he has been practicing lately, but he was not practicing the first few practices because of the COVID protocols. Apparently we should not read too much into who starts tonight.

Interesting. Does anyone think that Saunders plans on tinkering with anything but the 4? I don't think you start Ricky coming off the bench without thinking long and hard about it and talking to him. And I think most folks had Okogie penciled in as the starting 3, so I think that sticks.
So to me the only one that is in flux is the 4. Hopefully they aren't putting too much stock in that limited sample size of player pairing info from last year where KAT and Layman did really well. That's nice and all, but not a big enough sample size.
